Elkapath – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

E: Well, we are Elkapath, a Gothic synthetic metal band from Gloucestershire

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

E: The whole Elkapath story started in the far 2004 as a solo project by Carla who started writing original music. In 2019 she decided to turn the project into a full band and add metal influences.

She was always a known songwritter in the local music scene, so the moment she start looking for members the band formed. Within a few months the full band started playing show, but lineup changes happened later and became more serious up until today, where we are ready for everything the future holds for us!

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

E: Musically,  we are a group of 4 individuals with a lot of different backgrounds. Carlas influences are closer to bands like the Prodigy and Korn, while Marios is influenced by all metal styles in general. Chris is heavily influenced by industrial and Trevor influences come from everything 80s rock onwards.

Non musical influences, well, we all have a love for art in general including horror and cult films. Ceepy little dolls for instance, that is heavily influenced by ‘Puppet Master’ and ‘Childs Play’

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

E: Between Marios and Carla there is a promise from Marios, that one day Carla will buy for him a coffee at a central square in New York between sound check and stage time!

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

E: Carla she is the main writer, we love her way of work… she once said “guys I need a break from social media, don’t worry, I will be back in 10 days…” 10 days later she came back with the next album!

The way she writes is in a electro dark theme, with midi guitars and drums as it sounds in her head, then Trevor adds his bass over the original, Marios replicates the midi guitar with real guitar and Chris does his drums and boom, the pure magic done. All that is left from the original Is the synth and vocals.

Our songs is all about tricks of the mind, about phobias to spiders for example but also about personal experiences, nightmares and fantasies.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

E: Our PR company Angels PR are doing a brilliant job at helping promoting us so far but we do put in our fair share of work and do have our own website but also on most social media! We are always connecting with new people to get the word out there.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

E: In 2021 it’s the way forward, people are always listening to music on their phones and computers, how ever we do find the physical format a lot more real and does still sell. Don’t you missing the days when you would walk down the street to buy the new album of your favourite band? There is something magical about the physical album, we have printed ours and we are hoping in the future to print vinyls too! They were the real magic!

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

E: Stairway to heaven for Marios and Kingdom by Devin Townsend for Carla. Two very different songs with a big place in our heart for different reasons.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

E: When Marios is tuning with Chris warming up on drums, Trevor playing Duran Duran in the background while Carla’s trying to sing!

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

E: This happened a couple of days ago, when the single was released and I saw people pre-ordering the album, totally unknown people took who took their wallet out and bought the album, to us that was the very best feeling in the world that we’re so proud of. For those people we will continue writing more and more.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

E: We have already the basics of our next album ready, but at the moment we are working hard to come be our best form for performance and working our asses off playing shows and promoting this album.

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

E: We have a few shows booked up and we are always looking to book more… we are so hungry to play live and want to give fans the show of their lives… we give 100% in our shows and guarantee a memorable night.
