Elina Englezou – Interview
Interview with Elina Englezou the creator of the GODITHA – THE ROCK OPERA and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: Hi Elina. What type of artist are you?
Elina. Hi Pete. Thank you for inviting me here today.
I like experimenting and combining different things in music – elements from different genres, unusual musical instruments and opposite vocal tinges. In Goditha metal meets classical music, heavy guitars with balalaikas, uds, ocarinas and vocal duets with the hardest male voices singing along with powerful sopranos.
PD: Tell us the brief history of Goditha.
Elina. Goditha is a young innocent girl who lives in a Medieval village. Betrayed by her lover and blinded with hatred she surrenders her soul to Daeva , the Princess of darkness in order to help her take revenge. She casts her curse and turns him into an undead creature never to rest until a woman loves him so much as to give her life for him. He returns and terrorizes the village while the other 15 characters constantly balance between good and evil
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
Elina. I listen to all kinds of music and I can find great songs in every genre. Classical music has influenced me a lot since I was a child as well as classic rock bands like Queen and Jethro Tull. Also, I’ve always loved musicals and rock operas. My favourite is Quadrophenia by the Who.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
Elina. I guess I’m lucky because I’ve already achieved my life-time dream with Goditha finally being releassed. Now , I’m hoping for a live performance in the theater when the pandemic is over.
PD: Who helps you to finish your Rock opera?
Elina. The Mighty Bob Katsionis has a great part in all this. Besides the production , he also arranged and played all the metal instruments ( guitars/ bass/keyboards ). He launched my work 100 levels up and has supported the whole project all the way. He is an amazingly talented musician and a great teacher !
PD: How do you promote it?
Elina. We are trying to get our work heard abroad through our personal contacts and of course Angels PR who are helping us in this.
PD: So what is your next step after GODITHA?
Elina. As I said above, we’re hoping for a live show at a theatre but things are so uncertain that I am really afraid to make any plans at the moment. Let’s hope we make it !
Thank you for your hospitality and your interest in our work.
