Cutthroat LA – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD:  How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

Cutthroat LA: We are all musicians with different taste, and influences. But cut from the same cloth and have the same visions.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

Cutthroat LA: We are from Los Angeles, California. We are the types of people who use music as our outlet. It’s a way for us to release our anxieties and frustrations. also a way to tell people how we feel about life through our eyes.

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?

Cutthroat LA: In general, life inspires us to make music. Some of our influences would be Biohazard, Body Count, NWA, and Downset. We usually write about current events and things that we see in the streets.

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

Cutthroat LA: We just do it as a mental release, and whatever comes of it will be just that.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

Cutthroat LA: Just being able to tour the world and hearing people sing along. Every opportunity to play live music is a proud moment. But the best tour we’ve had was the Persistence Tour in 2020.

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

Cutthroat LA: Trying to promote online is a struggle as we are not social media experts. I believe in the old way of just playing brick and mortar shows, writing, good songs, and letting the message spread on its own.

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?

Cutthroat LA: I usually book my own tours with the help from my friends that I have met on the road. We have a run coming up in October with a Cro-Mags.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?

Cutthroat LA: Again, I prefer the old-school way, but we don’t have a choice. Everything seems to be about streaming now. It just sucks at the artist doesn’t make the money that they deserve via streaming sites.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

Cutthroat LA: I don’t really wish I had written any other songs, other than the ones I have already written. I wish one of them would blow up to be as big as House of Pain “jump around” though lol.

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

Cutthroat LA: I don’t like that they want all the bands to sound the same. If I could change it I would bring it back to the old school way and not allow any streaming, just kids buying records with Artwork.

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?

Cutthroat LA: I am currently on tour singing in Downset, writing these responses from the bathroom of my hotel room in France. Haha

PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?

Cutthroat LA: You can get it on any of the streaming sites ha ha. Spotify, iTunes or the others, just type in “cutthroat LA”and enjoy. As far as merchandise we only sell that at shows.
