Cavern
Eater, the new EP from Oakland, MD’s Cavern continues upon the blueprint that was first shown on their 2015 release “Outsiders” but now stripped down further to a 2-piece configuration; showcasing only drums, guitar, and an occasional synth layer. Utilizing an impressive display of looper pedals in their compositions, Zack Harkins (guitar) creates lush, layered guitarscapes while Stephen Schrock (drums) fills in those soundscapes with intricate and hard hitting Bonham-esque drum patterns that add a level of musicality of equal importance to the guitar parts. “Eater” is their first release in three years and also the first to be recorded with the band in their current 2-piece manifestation. Constantly evolving, the band can be placed aside contemporaries such as Russian Circles, The Fucking Champs, and They Will Destroy You.
Eater was recorded by Noel Mueller in his Tiny Castle. Mixed and mastered by Noel Mueller for Cavern and Grimoire Records.
