Building Upon The Revelation – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD:  How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

BUTR: Yes, the aspiration is to be an artist. Creating thoughtful, insightful pieces. I wrote the album thinking that maybe in a 100 years people would look back on this record as a classic like they do now with say Debussey or Beethoven.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

BUTR: I have Spanish and British heritage; I was born in Japan and have traveled the world.  I love music and how it’s a living breathing piece of art. I started playing music because I was a singer and needed music. Played in various bands and kept progressing because the music called for it. Eventually I really fell in love with the pureness of instrumental music, it’s universal, doesn’t need to be translated, can span culture, age, language. If it’s good it’s good.

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?

BUTR: Tesla, pioneers of fields and science. I write about the deeper things, the answers to the questions of life, but it’s instrumental, so hopefully the music inspires thought, inner reflection.

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

BUTR: I want to share the art, hopefully have made peoples live a little better, helped them enjoy a moment.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

BUTR: I played a few benefit shows for good causes.

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

BUTR: It’s not easy, Yes we are climbing out of the bedrooms and into spotify and youtube.  I believe you have to surround yourself with a good people/ a good team. I am a quite person, my art does the talking mostly, so having networkers and other people around is key for me.

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?

BUTR: Again going back to good people, linking up with other bands and helping each other out. When I headline shows and can pick my support I will generally bring the same group of bands out.  Booking, I still handle all of that, I reach out, get things set up, do the artwork for flyers and socials and promote.  I will be playing the HHHG festival Oct 22nd

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?

BUTR: I am a firm believer in, If you like a band buy their record or merch. Without the support you may never get another album, single or live show. 1 album bought from bandcamp is equal to what like a million streams or something crazy.  Streaming is great to get it out there, but bad on the money end.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

BUTR: “Born to wild” Steppenwolf bad ass song and used in everything, movies, tv, commercials, radio.  for the money.  If it was art alone, Moonlight sonata.

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

BUTR: I don’t know, I wish that artistic integrity and creativeness were what made things great and broke artist’s

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?

BUTR: I have a psychedelic furs cover of Love my way coming out, why I don’t know, just wanted to play that song, I have loved that tunes for ages and had fun putting it down. I am also working on music for a thriller/ mystery series.  The full length album just released and trying to get out and support it, while working on other projects.

PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?
