Boy Breaking Glass

Boy Breaking Glass

Named after the poem by Gwendolyn Brooks, the rock trio Boy Breaking Glass introduces a sound that is both dark and intense. Like the kid who feels oppressed, without hope or opportunity, we all feel the need to leave our mark on the world; “If not a note, a hole, If not an overture, a desecration”[1]. Boy Breaking Glass is inspired by this vision of transcendence through expression; In their own sonic way, creating “A hymn, a snare, and an exceeding sun”[2].

‘Exceed’ by Boy Breaking Glass is a rich sonic experience and far beyond a simple sum of its parts. The listener finds that the songs evolve as the album unfolds; the title of the album working as a description of this process. The album was almost entirely recorded live off the studio floor, with all three musicians performing in the same room. In this way, Boy Breaking Glass have been able to capture the special vibe that exists in their live shows and offer a complex album that continues to impress with repeated listens.
