Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
BOTW: We are a blackened death metal band for fans of Belphegor, Hate, Marduk, Vader, etc.
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
BOTW: I’m from Aurora, IL, a suburb west of Chicago. I started playing guitar in 1993 and was always interested in writing metal.
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
BOTW: Music is what inspires me. I love checking out new bands as well as listening to old classics. I find so much inspiration from just listening.
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
BOTW: To make music that others can enjoy. I’m simple, I guess!
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
BOTW: Every time I advance the band in some way, I am proud. I’m proud of the new album we just released. I’m proud of our performance at the last show we played. I’m proud that people bought our merch at that show.
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
BOTW: It’s going well. I think it’s harder to get people’s attention because there’s just so much to listen to and watch. With home recording technology becoming so cheap and good, there’s just so much out there. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but yes, it’s hard to get people’s attention.
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
BOTW: Generally a promoter or someone from another band will reach out to us to see if we’re interested or available for a live gig. Then we promote it on social media. Pretty standard. We have no live gigs lined up at the moment.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
BOTW: I think it’s a good thing. It gives you unencumbered access to virtually unlimited amounts of music.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
BOTW: Dominate by Morbid Angel because it’s a badass song.
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
BOTW: I don’t know. I don’t really consider Blood of the Wolf part of the “music industry”. I would say we are still an “underground” band.
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
BOTW: I’m always working on new music. But, we just released a new album in November of 2022 called IV: The Declaration of War Eternal. You should check it out!
PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?
BOTW: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube. All the usual spots! Thanks for the interview!
