Bend For Eleven were formed in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2014. Within the 6 years of their existence, they have made it to 2 full length albums. The first of them entitled “Aggressive Illusions” was released in 2016 and “Rebel Day” is their second and brand new album.

Bend For Eleven play alternative rock with ear-catching and mind-intriguing melodies. Their album was solely recorded and mastered in Greece. The production is basically 90’s influenced, but still fresh bringing out a cool rock ‘n’ roll attitude.

In terms of songwriting, Bend For Eleven also do very well. Instead of persisting on playing riffs, they choose to use melodic guitar phrasing. So, most of their songs have a rocking style that rolls. They are not a typical heavy alternative band. Instead, they use the elements that suit them from all the periods of alternative music. Their songs are memorable and some of them can make hits and definitely deserve to be played in pubs or local radio stations.

For example “YeahYeahYeah” is a great song with a groove that makes you wanna dance to its rock ground. The same titled “Rebel Day” shows the band’s connection to the heavier side of grunge/alternative music and bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden and Monster Magnet. On the other hand, “Evelyn” has a poppier melody that instantly turns it to a radio friendly tune. Some 00’s alternative rock influences also appear in it.

In the whole record. the rhythm section’s groove is at great levels and makes an essential part for Bend for Eleven. The bass plays some cool licks and the drums groove out a hell lot.

Bend for Eleven’s vocals have a variety of influences from alternative to grunge and heavy rock and then from rock ‘n’ roll and garage punk to psychedelic. This is great because you never get bored since you actually never know what to expect or what comes next.

Bottom line, “Rebel Day” is a nice choice if you are into alternative rock. You will discover some really nice songs regardless which your favorite decade of alternative rock is. Most of all you will discover a band that has worked really well with their material and sound.
