Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (https://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
AURA: I would describe it as an original band in which the musical concept is enhanced by melody and emotionality. A band that loves open atmospheres and elegance.
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
AURA: We come from a very small country in southern Italy, we spent our adolescence in the 90s listening to lots of 70s / 80s Rock and metal vinyls of those years. In 1996 we decided to form a metal music band, a genre unknown in our country and with many difficulties. In the end, the project still continues today because we are always the same boys of those years, linked by a strong friendship.
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
AURA: We believe that our music is more inspired by the bands of the past as they seem more genuine than those of today. what we like about those times was the freedom of expression in all senses, in a world where everything was new and to be discovered. Today we always seek inspiration from what surrounds us in the small but also from the events and changes that occur in today’s world both at the political and general level and at the humanitarian level.
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
AURA: Our aspiration as an artist is to share our music as much as possible and be able to meet people’s hearts and feelings.
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
AURA: Only the fact of being a band that has been together for over 25 years is a fact of great pride having overcome numerous difficulties
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
AURA: What I notice years later is that today, let’s say small bands keep on chasing their dreams in numbers, sometimes bogus, in pursuit of fame as an end in itself. We believe that you have to be yourself and fully express what you are without necessarily having to be like someone else. Ultimately we still believe that in the digital world there is a business that is too high, sometimes almost scamming compared to what it returns to most bands. Our way of composing and making music is always the same, rehearsal room, all together and only after many rehearsals do we go to the studio to define everything that is composed. Ultimately we believe this is the way to be a true and honest band.
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
AURA: At the moment we are rehearsing for the live presentation of the album which will take place at the end of the month, unfortunately due to a health problem of a member of our band we had in August we had to block the organization of the lives until the full recovery.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
AURA: it is just a jungle in which music is treated like garbage, tons and tons of material fed to people who sometimes can’t listen to a song from start to finish, they only have the curiosity to listen to millions of things with superficiality. You see we were not born in the era in which every listening to a vinyl record was an event to meet in the houses where everyone brought his records or tapes recorded with various bands, hours and hours to study an inica conzone to enter in its bowels. Today it seems a bit too superficial to us.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
AURA: certainly Bohemian rhapsody but we do not say reason as it is obvious
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
AURA: In our opinion the biggest problem is that the record companies make the bands and not the other way around. Music is becoming too obvious and too created at the table.Furthermore, the digital age is flattening everything
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
AURA: As we said previously we are working on the live shows with the introduction for the first time of sequencers to make the live more faithful to the sound of the studio, in all this we are trying to make a video for another song of the album released at September in addition to the other two videos already released a short time ago.
