Åskväder – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
A: We are a rock n roll trio hailing from the stormy shores of Swedens west coast. Our music is basically rock in the way we would like to listen to and play it.
PD. Tell us the brief history of yourself.
A: Åskväder came to life in the end of 2017 and was founded by Martin Gut, Jon Solheim and Alex Mayr. We recorded our first EP in the beginning of 2018 and after this Alex Mayr left to play with Nicke Anderssons Lucifer. Staffan Persson took his place with the bass guitar and the first EP was released in 2018. Jon Solheim handles the lead vocals and the drums and Martin Gut plays guitar and sings the harmonies. Since the release of the EP we have been touring Sweden and Germany and in 2019 we got a record deal with The Sign Records who will release our debut album on the 13th of March 2020. Åskväder is a band for people who like rock music, as we do, and we try to be true to ourselves in making music that we appreciate both to play and to listen to. Therefore we combine different elements and styles and mix it up with our main path which is the path of rock n roll!
PD. Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
A: The non-musical influence would be life itself, the situation of the world today and events that occur and affect us. We are all in to the 60-70s with all the good music that came back then, everything from The Beatles to Black Sabbath and of course Led Zeppeling, AC/DC and Kiss. Another band that all of us really like are The Hellacopters whom have been around to influence us during a big part of our lives. All of us really like music and listen to a lot of different styles and types of music, everything that is good influences not depending on genre or style.
PD. What are your dreams and goals?
A: Our main goal is to continue doing what we love, to record and release albums and play live! It is not more complicated than that!
PD. Who writes your songs, what are they about?
A: We usually work with ready made demos which we then rehearse and arrange when we meet. The main part of the lyrics are written by Martin Gut as well as the music but the sound of Åskväder would not be what it is without the influences and expertise of each member.
PD. How do you promote your band and shows?
A: Of course via social media but also through our record label and their network.
PD. What do you think about downloading music online?
A: We think it is good, it is a good way for people to hear our music and hopefully if they like it they will buy our record. It means people will have easy access and therefore have the chance to hear more music. True fans of Åskväder still buy our records so we do not think the online music plattforms is bad for business in that sense.
PD. What’s your outlook on the record industry today?
A: It is a though spot to be in, being a record label, also a band due to the fact that the consumption of physical products is declining. We all have to work hard and help each other out.
PD. What song do you wish you’d written and why?
A: The Devils Stole The Beat From The Lord – The Hellacopters… It is the best song in the world!
PD. What are some of your pet peeves?
A: Hmm, this is a though one. Personally, people who do not do what thay have promised to do.
PD. What is your proudest moment in music?
A: This moment will happen on the 13th of March – the date we release our first LP. Will be amazing!
PD. Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there
A: Our next show is in Gothenburg on the 4th of April – you should be there cause it is our release party and it will be a blast! We are joining forces with Beat City Tubeworks and Capricorn. Will be a hell of a night! As a follow up we will do some more shows in Sweden during the spring and are planning a European tour in the fall.
