As The World Burns – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

ATWB: The band has all kinds of different tastes which is what give us our sound. We definately lean towards a heavy sound but without being super drop tuned. Traditional rock/ Metal with newer elements.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – ie Where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc

ATWB: We are based out of Norfolk, Va. I personally Have had a love affair with Music very early on. ( as i’m sure most musicians do.) I have been playing for a long time and it has been a constant in my life. Playing guitar is constantly  challenging and constantly rewarding at the same time. It’s not just wire and wood…It’s a hunk of burning love!

PD: Who and What inspires you to make music both in terms of musical and other influences. What do you like to write about in your songs?

ATWB: Playing live!  There’s nothing quite like it. Our Singer, John, Writes all the lyrics. He writes about what he knows. War being one of them as a former Army ranger. Relationships and current events.

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

ATWB: We want to plat as many shows as we can before we die. Write some great music and always have fun with it.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

ATWB: Probably Playing to sold out crowds.  Engineering our second album.

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the days of home studios. How is that going?

ATWB: I heard there are an average of 44,000 songs a day being released. Pretty crazy. we do the best we can but we are not content creators. That seems to be the norm now.

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours. Any performances coming up?

ATWB: We do your usual facebook ad and flyers. We have also been known to do it old school with printed flyers.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online ? What about streaming sites like spotify?

ATWB: Don’t get me started on that. Streaming for the artist is a rip off. The only thing is, we can have a place where people can listen to our music so everyone puts up with it.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

ATWB: Happy birthday. lol. it’s probably the only song that gets sung everyday.

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

ATWB: It sucks what the industry has become. Paying to play. Paying to get record deals. paying for everything and not getting paid much back. If we didn’t do it for the sheer love of it, it wouldn’t even be worth it.

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment

ATWB: trying to book show soon. We are writing new material as well.

PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?

ATWB: You can check us out on the streaming services or facebook and you tube
