Andy Rocks – Interview

Andy Rocks – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

AR: Hi, my name is Andrea and I am the singer and founder of the group Andy Rocks. We are a Rock Projekt and I write the basic songs and lyrics. Then together we try to put in in a rocking dress and get the best out of every song

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

AR: Andy Rocks is not a very old band. I started to look for bandmates round the middle of 2018 and found Markus (Drums) and Michael (Bass). I had already some song ideas and we released our first EP Porcelain Heart in April 2019. Our guitar player Markus, who played on the EP, unfortunately quit and currently we have no permanent guitar player. Since I know a lot of musicians, I started asking different guitar players for guest appearances on different songs, for example on the song Digital Detox. My Italian friend Simona Parisi plays guitar on this one.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

AR: I would mention Jon Bon Jovi. Because of his band and the album These Days I wanted to sing in a band.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

AR: As a dream I would say, once singing a song together with Jon. That would be great. As a next goal I consider to finish a full length album with Andy Rocks and play more live.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

AR: I am the main songwriter and I also write the lyrics. Most of the time I start with a chorus and then I try to figure out a structure. Next step is for the guys to add their ideas and create an arrangement. The topics of the songs are diverse. On the EP Porcelain Heart it was a lot about broken hearts, being left and stuff, Digital Detox instead encourages you to spend some more time in the “real world” every now and then instead of being online all the time and is less serious. Our Song Time flies for example deals with time itself as something you cannot grasp and the individual awareness of feeling it pass.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

AR: Mostly we do it online via social networks. We also use to walk around in the cities we play and hand out flyers for our shows.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

AR: It has good and bad sides. On the one hand it has become easier for artists to publish their music worldwide and for the listener it is available everywhere and of course it doesn’t cost much. On the other hand artists and record companies earn less because they hardy sell cds anymore. So bands have to earn their money with selling merch and tickets for their shows. For small bands it is hard to earn any money at all.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

AR: That is a tough question, there are so many great songs. Maybe What goes around comes around by Justin Timberlake. The beautiful melody line of the song is so rich in variety although the song does not have many chords.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

AR: I can’t stand if for example if someone is always unfriendly and speaks bad about others behind their back.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

AR: That was when the first full album of my former Band Black Daffodils war released. It was a great feeling for the first time to hold your own cd in your hands.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

AR: At the moment we write, record and produce new songs which I hope will lead to releasing a full album soon. Some songs are already recorded and I think the result will be very great!

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

AR: Due to the corona crisis we all know that it is a hard time for live music. So it is difficult to really plan something at the moment, so we focus on writing and producing new stuff. But we think positive and are already stage hungry. You should come to our shows because you will get a passionate performance, nice rock tunes and have a good time!
