Aeons In Solitude – Interview
PD: What type of artist are you?
Alex: We are Aeons In Solitude, a doom metal band from Athens, Greece. I created this project back in 2016, which later evolved into a full band on May 2018.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
Alex: Well, it all begun back in summer 2015, when I had some ideas for a doom metal song. I grabbed my guitar back then and composed a song. Then I said myself: Let’s form a doom metal band! So, without hesitation, I contacted my long time friend Vangelis Yalamas who owns Fragile Studio, and we started working on this project. I just had some riffs and no goddamn idea about the rest! Along with Vangelis’ assistance and guidance, the first song, entitled ‘’Age of Darkness’’ (which is also our first video) was born. Being satisfied with the results, I continued composing and recording, in order to create an 8-track album. As the recording procedure went on, we created a unique sound for the band, which consists of Doom/Gothic Metal sound, with various Progressive elements. Also, I saw my vocal skills improving. During the vocal sessions I was wondering ‘’Wow, how did I do that??? ‘’. When the album was 75% complete, I searched for musicians to turn the project into a full band. After some line up changes, we are now complete and stronger than ever. So, here is the final line up : Me on vocals, Panagiotis Leontaritis and Theo Leoutsakos on Guitars, Demetrius Moustakis on the bass guitar and George Zouborlis on the drums.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
Alex: Our musical influences are of course some of the Doom Metal Titans, for example Candlemass and Paradise Lost , but the most of them are far from Doom Metal, and some of them far from Metal. We didn’t want to walk on the standard Doom Metal Paths and create a copycat band .
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
Alex: When I was around 15 years old, I dreamed of playing in a band and perform onstage. But my greatest goal of all time was to hold my album in my hands. I think we are so close now!
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
Alex: The band’s songs are written by me. I record the demos at home and then I take them to Fragile Studio to work on them with Vangelis Yalamas. There, we keep some ideas, we throw away some ideas, we add some ideas and the songs come to life. Special thanks go to Vangelis. Without his precious help, nothing would be as it is right now.
Lyrically, the songs deal with themes as society, personal struggles and horror stories. Each song has a unique story to tell.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
Alex: Our band is promoted by Angels PR Music Promotion
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
Alex: Just go to your local record store and buy the record. You don’t wanna miss the magic, don’t you? 😉
PD.What is your proudest moment in music?
Alex: Before creating Aeons In Solitude, I made two failed attempts in music. That’s why they didn’t last. But now, things are different. The band right now is at its best. The line up consists of me and four more persons who are really nice guys and great musicians. We always have a great time together inside and outside the Studio. So, the one and only thing I am proud of in music is Aeons In Solitude. It’s not just a band, it’s a family and it’s an honour to have these guys by my side.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
Alex: For the time being we are in search for a record label to release our debut album, entitled Mourning Cloak, and we rehearse to be ready for live shows in 2020. Meanwhile, spoiler alert, I have already started working on some demos for the second Aeons In Solitude album. The recordings will begin on September, I guess.
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
Alex: With the help of Angels PR we have plenty of shows in 2020 (one show is an opening act for a legendary band, but I cannot reveal it yet). When we know the exact dates, we will announce them. So, on the ‘’why you should be there’’ section, I don’t have a suitable answer for that. I can only tell you that we will do our best to perform these songs for you on stage. As I mentioned before, our sound is not what you are used to, so why not give it a shot? 😉
