Abysmatic – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
A: Abysmatic is a 3 piece industrial band from Sofia, Bulgaria.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
A: Abysmatic was founded by producer and main singer-songwriter Dennis Nikov and had its first official release in 2013. Completed by Hristo Simeonov on guitar and Dobromir Vulkov on drums, the band has since released 2 LPs, numerous singles, and has been a constant presence in the Bulgarian alternative scene. Abysmatic just recently released its definitive self-titled album, offering a unique industrial metal sound that could be described as The Prodigy meets Static-X, and featuring lyrics in the band’s native tongue. A single from the album called “Dante” was picked up by local radio which led to Abysmatic landing opening spots for artists like Combichrist, Foreign Beggars, Alix Perez, Enei and Leeroy Thornhill (ex-The Prodigy).
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
S: Nine Inch Nails, The Prodigy, Static-X, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Ministry, Rammstein and Celldweller to name a few.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
A: To keep releasing new music and hopefully hit bigger and bigger stages.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
A: Dennis is the main songwriter, the songs are mostly comprised of allegorical plays on words that aim to sound like pop song lyrics but with a Satanic or nihilistic twist.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
A: Social media, press releases, media interviews, networking, merchandise, various promo materials…
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
A: It’s fine and it’s even better if you paid for it, however even if you didn’t, no one is making much money off online sales anyway, while people being able to listen to your music in one way or another is valuable in itself.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently recording a new single, planning on shooting a couple of new videos and developing a cool synthwave-oriented live show for a local club.
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
A: Abysmatic’s live shows are an explosive mixture of pure punk rock energy and jump-up drum and bass style drops which is sure to get everyone dancing.
