Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
ZC: I’m a multi-instumental solo-artist. I play rock music.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
ZC: For the passed five years I’ve been the frontman for the Phoenix-based Stoner Metal band Hudu Akil. We’ve gone all over the country. Now with the entertainment industry being shutdown, I have recorded a 5-track EP written and performed solely by myself.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
ZC: Musically, I’m influenced by out-of-the-box people and bands like Queens of the Stone Age, White Stripes, Ty Segull, Brant Bjork. Stuff like that.
Non-musical influences would be Quentin Tarantino, Charles Bukowski, Anthony Bourdain, Joe Rogan..
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
ZC: I want my own ‘Rancho de la Luna’
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
ZC: I write all of my own songs. They’re about all kinds of stuff: love, death, longing, passion.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
ZC: I try to be as creative as possible when it comes to marketing so that could entail all kinds of things. Sometimes I play an alter-ego who is our manager for instagram. Thats always fun! Right now, I’m in the midst of a “fuck Zac Crye” Campaign, we’ve got shirts and hoodies so that people who don’t like me can support me as well!
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
ZC: I’ve always done it. If I really want to support an artist, I will buy a vinyl from them directly.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
ZC: So many, man….
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
ZC: I hate waiting on people. I like to move at my own pace, and admittedly, I get a bit aggravated when things aren’t moving as fast as I’d like.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
ZC: Playin Planet MAmmoth fest in Tempe, AZ last year. It was like a micro-psycho LAs Vegas experiences in terms of playing for all the cool people involved in the Stoner/doom scene here in the valley.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
ZC: Right now I’ve got a 5-track EP titled, “All the Same,” which is ready for release on 04/16 and I’ve got preorders up for $5 at zaccrye.bandcamp.com
The title track, “All the Same,” is currently streaming everywhere. When you preorder the album, you get an instant download of that track.
We’ve got a music video coming out for “All the Same” in February and one more single release before the album drops.
Other than that, I am currently in the studio recording the follow-up ep which should be ready for a winter release.
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
ZC: Our next show will most likely be a live stream so theres no reason you couldn’t make it!
