ZABURON – Interview

Interview with Luca Zanardi (Guitars) of ZABURON and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD:  How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

LZ: I could say a simply Death Metal Band but is not really what it is, we have also thrash, black and groovy influences that you can in our music. We like to put a touch of melody somewhere, in the guitar solos for example…We want to do heavy music but absolutely differ songs and most of all different albums. I couldn’t do always the same things, it’s so annoying for the listeners, I think.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

LZ: We are all four Italians and we live between Milan and Bergamo. Luca, (me…guitar), Antonello (bass) and Christian (drum) started together when we were 20 instead Davide (vocal) fortunately took over after Tony (vocal) left the band shortly after making the first record (Sic bellum incipit). There were a few other members passing by but very quickly. This team is good and will stay the same in the next record I hope

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?

LZ: I’m 43 and my musical tastes and influences are quite old but I have to admit that there are a lot of remarkable new bands. I also enjoy listening to some guys who are good at hardcore or deathcore. It’s not really our genre but they added something to the Metal genre. I write the music anyway but the lyrics (at least the topics) have always been decided by the singers. I only chose album titles that are in Latin. I like to maintain a sort of brand of Italianness.

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

LZ: Jon Nödtveidt (Dissection) , Dan Swanö  (Edge of Sanity), Dimebag Darrell (Pantera) are some of my them.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

LZ: Usually when I have the finished albums in my hands but recently i was so happy to see Sony Music distribution written next to our band name

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

LZ: Yes, it is true it is not easy but once upon a time perhaps it was even more so as a matter of means. Today there is more competition and ease in producing a record at home but through the internet it is also easier to obtain visibility.

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?

LZ: Not at the moment, we evaluate from time to time when they deserve

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?

LZ: The world has changed and we can’t do anything about it, it’s the same for big movies for example. We just need to regulate it because producing records costs a lot of time, effort and money. But I am consoled by the fact that in this way even a boy in a village in India can listen to our record easily.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

LZ: So many… I could say for example Whole lotta rosie (AC DC), fast, catchy and super rocknroll

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

LZ: I wish record labels would find the courage to invest in artists before they become famous, now they call them when they have a lot of followers. Furthermore, I would like Spotify and others to put everything in their compilations, not always the usual bands with big names, otherwise we end up doing like in pop music.

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?

LZ: We are working on the new album but soon will be on streaming also the old album “Sic bellum Incipit”

PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?

LZ: Definitely from our social profiles Facebook and Instagram and from our official website where you will soon be able to buy CDs and vinyls. We are evaluating the quantity and form of distribution with management.

Thanks

Luca Zanardi
