WOORMS Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD. What type of artist are you?

W. We are a punk band. Maybe more specifically, noise and sludge punk.

PD. Tell us the brief history of yourself.

W. We’ve been together since summer 2017. WOORMS was formed several months before that with a different drummer and bassist (to develop the initial material) and a demo was released then.

PD. Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

W.  That’s a very long list. Zappa, Leonard Cohen, Melvins, Nick Cave. Maybe that hits the broad points.

PD. What are your dreams and goals?

W.   You’re looking at them …but selling more records would be nice.

PD. Who writes your songs, what are they about?

W. That’s me, Joey Carbo. I formed the band and write everything up to now. We want to collaborate a little more for the second LP that we just started rehearsing for. We are mixing our first full length right now (July 2018) and so far we’ve released a few singles and an EP of demos.

PD. How do you promote your band and shows?

W.  PR firms.

PD. What do you think about downloading music online?

W.   We do it. Maybe it’ll fuck us all. Maybe the industry will find a way. I, personally, get pretty fucked on streaming revenue.

PD. What song do you wish you’d written and why?

W.  I’ve never considered this. There are dozens of songs I’m jealous of but you can’t ride two horses with one ass.

PD. What are some of your pet peeves?

W.  I have three!

One: We don’t headline yet, but non headlining bands that play more than twenty minutes (unless they’re Helms Alee).

Two: The fact that t-shirt sales always outdo record sales.

Three: I read a food review the other day that burned me up! It was on the best fried chicken in the US and this monster said Church’s beat Popeyes; this kept me up for several nights. I doubt I’ll ever get over it.

PD. What is your proudest moment in music?

W.  This band is pretty new but any time I’m told we really killed by headliners or musicians that I respect a lot, it really puts the jam in my doughnut! That’s happened several times already and it always feels good.

PD. So what are you working on at the moment?

W.    Right now, we’re mixing our new record, booking tours, and rehearsing new songs for the next one. Circle of life.

PD. Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

W. We have two shows coming up in Texas where the line-ups are really killer. I can’t wait to see these bands! Revolution, in Bryan (8/5/18), and Lost Well in Austin (8/6/18). Also, you’ll be able to buy limited edition colours of our new 7” before they’re all gone.
