WitcheR – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD:  How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

W: WitcheR is all about self-realization where we can fulfil our creativity, the feelings and emotions inside us.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

W: Karola prepared herself to be a classical musician since she was a child, she is an educated musician and in the meantime, she was infected with metal music. I am only a self-taught musician, I approach music completely differently, but we complete each other in that way. We both played in several different bands, in Trollheimen we were together, we met there and that is how our common musical journey started.

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?

W: The music itself is inspired by the actual feelings and emotions. Mostly we listen to black metal – from the well-known artists to the least-known demo bands -, so obviously that also inspire us. The lyrics are mostly about the old times, recalling the old principles, with a bit of witching feelings and a hint of folklore.

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

W: If you are asking us what we would like to reach with WitcheR, I do not have an answer for that. We would only like to write music, make new albums and mesmerize those who like our art.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

W: We have a lot of that. For example, the first demo, the first factory-made CD, the first vinyl, but also every new release, every merchandise, every interview or all fan letter or a fan comment on whatever social media platform make us very proud.

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

W: It is very difficult to stand out from so many artists. Our method is to madly stick to path we decided to go on and do what we are pleased with, what comes naturally and not to go with any actual trend.

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?

W: We do not do any live shows and at the moment we do not even think about that.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?

W: Though we are huge collectors, we have thousands of original material in our collection, we are personally happy if someone listen to our music, even if it is only a download. I have the same feelings about the streaming sites, during travels I often listen to Spotify, but there are so many bands that even there is hard to stand out.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

W: There is no such song. We would like to create our songs, which can touch the listeners emotionally. Do this in our own style, so we can also relate to them.

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

W: There is, but I know well that my wish is almost unfulfillable. If there was any chance, I would like to make a living from only making music, releasing albums. That would be great. Even on a small basis. Obviously, I am talking about hard work and quality productions, but it would be so good to deal only with music 24/7.

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?

W: If you are interested in what we are up to musically, in the background we are already writing new WitcheR songs, personally I am about to record vocals to the second Frozen Wreath album and I slowly put together the new album of my personal band Vrag.

PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?

W: We can be found on every social media platform. Someone like to order releases or merchandise from us, just drop an e-mail to, or everything is sold on our Bandcamp page:
