Witchden

Witchden

Hailing from Minneapolis Minnesota, Witchden was formed in 2010 by drummer Jeff Moen, guitarist Adam Alexander Rivkin, and bassist Andy Green. After several changes to the lineup, the band perfected their craft and arrived at their current sound. With the addition of second guitarist Kory McNamara, and vocalist Blake Reed, Witchden delivers a heady blend of thick sludge-out tones and grinding blackened riffage.

They have shared the stage with a plethora of national acts such as UADA, GHOSTBATH, MINSK, WEEDEATER, WINDHAND, BONGZILLA, PELICAN, JUCIFER, TROUBLE, EARTHRIDE, and countless others. WITCHDEN has been a top competitor in their local scene and with their tireless ambition, they have roamed all around the country, melting faces and gaining loyal followers.

In the beginning of 2019, WITCHDEN returned to the studio to record their upcoming release. This album is hands-down the best thing they have created to date. Heart and soul has been poured in to every track. Their immersion in to the void is complete and the black metal influence is as apparent as ever. They have coupled the darkness in sound with a stage persona equally as devoid of light.

[FROM RECENT PRESS]

“If you consider yourself a heavy metal fan in the slightest, you need to listen to WITCHDEN. This is a local band that is going places and it is only a matter of time before they receive national recognition and start selling out larger venues.” -Jake Cobb, musicinminnesota.com

“[WITCHDEN’s] power both musically and with their stage presence left me breathless and lost in the palm of their hand… you could easily tell that WITCHDEN is one of those local bands that is only going to get bigger and bigger in the near future.” -Lange Goldstein, twincitiesmedia.net`

Metal Nexus

Our recent State Of The Art: Minnesota band Witchden are back in the Metal Nexus spotlight with their recently released 7-song effort “Salt The Earth“. The follow-up to their 2012 outing, “Consulting The Bones“, reveals some major progression for the band and at least two big differences, the addition of vocalist Blake Reed and second guitarist Dinis DeCarvalho. Perhaps it’s the inclusion of the new members or maybe it is just natural evolution for the band but the material on “Salt The Earth” definitely packs some extra punch to it for whatever reasons. Witchden‘s line up is rounded out by guitarist Adam Rivkin, bassist Andy Green, and drummer Jeff Moen and the new album was co-produced by Dinis and Adam together.

“Witchden fuse all their genres brilliantly to provide a great blast of Sludge/Stoner Metal riffs with extra lashings of Punk Rock and good old Rock and Roll to truly stand out from the crowd. The band have just released their superb new album “Consulting The Bones”. A 9 song 44 minute blast of amazing Sludge and Roll riffs as they call their own blend of hard-hitting Stoner/Sludge Metal music. This album just flat out rocks from start to finish. And has some of the catchiest riffs I have heard this year. This band really do know how to play a mean fine Sludge/Stoner Metal riff mixed in with Rock N Roll. Not many bands capture these genres successfully but Witchden pull this off brilliantly to truly stand out from the crowd. The album is full of great songs that will have you hooked in no time at all. The vocals are outstanding from start to finish that have the right amount of passion and anger to carry off the Sludgier moments of the album. Standout tracks include – “Time To Burn”, “Ossuary”, “All Just A Lie” and “System Link”. These tracks capture this truly talented band at their best. Playing sublime heavy Sludge/Stoner Metal riffs with a great Rock and Roll vibe. The band are superb musicians and prove this time and time again. The album is superbly produced as you can hear every note played to hard-hitting perfection.
I recommend you all to download this brilliant album for free from BandCamp (though you will have to download each song individually) now. These guys prove they have a talent for writing a great song. Some with superb sing-a-long lyrics along with top-notch headbanging riffs that will go down a storm in the live arena. All in all a great album from a great band which I can’t recommend highly enough. Brilliant stuff and highly recommended.”
