WINGLESS Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

Greg: It’s hard to describe what kind of metal we play. It is definitely metal, but we don’t want to categorize our music. If you want to know what genre it is, you have to listen to our music. Then you can call it what you want.  We’re used to telling people Wingless is a metal band, that’s it.

If you want to know what genre it is, you have to listen to our music. Then you can call it what you want.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

Greg: WINGLESS is a band formed in early 2012 in Cracow (Poland). The band consists of experienced musicians associated with a number of other bands of the local metal scene. The band has already released debut album titled “Hatred is Purity” which was released 18th of July 2014. In January 2016 WINGLES finished recording session of the second album “The Blaze Within”. From the beginning of 2016 WINGLES became a trio and during live performances bass player will be session musician. In 2018 we would like to start recording session of the new cd. It will be the third full length album in band’s career.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

Greg: If we talk about non-musical influences it will be: art, literature and even designing. Sometimes people and situations in our today life could be influential. Personally I have a lot musical influences but I think let my music speak for itself.

We want to play gigs, making music and recording albums. It is very simplistic philosophy  without  hidden mission.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

Greg: We want to play gigs, making music and recording albums. It is very simplistic philosophy  without  hidden mission. So far we have done 2 full-length cds and we are active band so anything else is a bonus for us. I think tour with recognizable band would be quite good situation for us in future.

PD:Who writes your songs, what are they about?

Greg: I am the main composer in the band, but we arranged most of the songs together with drummer Pawel Solon. Sometimes Olaf (singer) bring idea or sketch of a song but most of the material is composed by me. Lyrically we are writing about our experiences and feelings sometimes about situations in life and state of mind….

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

Greg: We are using internet, social media and most of the platforms who support bands like us. You can find us on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Reverbnation and many more places in web.

I think it is good if you use it properly. What means “properly” – when people find a band and check out  tunes and not only downloading it but buying cd as well.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online

Greg: I think it is good if you use it properly. What means “properly” – when people find a band and check out  tunes and not only downloading it but buying cd as well. Lot of people did not realize that this is the only way to support band. We don’t want to fight with downloading music but I want to say it could be supportive for a bands in some way.

PD: What’s your outlook on the record industry today?

Greg: Lot of changes if we compare to 80’s or 90’s. Probably only strong will survive and maybe it is the only way so called “natural selection”. Most smaller bands use “pay to play” but I am definitely say NO for stuff like this. Paying to any bigger band for being support band during gig or tour is not for me. Music industry is a business so more or less money is important.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

Greg: I have recorded every song would I like to write. You can check out our two cd’s. There are plenty of great tracks. Some intense stuff but not only. For example “Great Shineless Brightness” is little bit different than “The hours of my rest”. I don’t like boring music so maybe that’s why my tunes sometimes consists of different emotions and feelings.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

Greg: Probably people who disrespect work other people it is very annoying and maybe  sometimes my band’s mate piss me off especially when they behave like lazy guys. Generally I prefer care about my life and I try to not waste time to be pissed off. By the way it is non typical question when we talk about interviews with a bands. Congratulations to You.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

Greg: I think there are lot of it. I’m proud from Wingless records. And I am very happy when people say a lot of great words about “The Blaze Within”. This record make me proud because that cd defined our music style and showing the band in so many places world wide. We had oportunity to check out lot of reviews from all over the world about “The Blaze Within”. I’ve been talking with people from USA and now I can talk with You Pete. I hope next album will surprise and we would talk about what’s happened new in few months.

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

Greg: We will be playing gigs this fall and winter and of course promoting “The Blaze Within.” So, if you have not checked out this album yet, do it now dear reader. Wingless will play September 23 in Częstochowa and October 22 in Kraków (our home city). Probably we will play one more gig in this year in December but it is not confirmed officially yet. Still waiting for announcement in media by the band’s leader who invite us to play with. Everyone who saw Wingless during gigs probably could say that we are very energetic and involved band. I think it is good recommendation and the rest is your choice and opinion.
