Weed Demon Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD. What type of artist are you?
WD. People probably call us stoner/doom metal, but we’re just a few dudes who like throwning down some riffs and spliffs.
PD. Tell us the brief history of yourself.
WD. Weed Demon Started in early 2015 with the goal of integrating a lot of musical styles within the “Stoner/Doom” Category.
PD. Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
WD. Musical: Black Sabbath, The Melvins, Sleep, (the list could go on and on and on through every genre)
Non Musical: Beer, pizza, Satan, and Weed
PD. What are your dreams and goals?
WD. Die and then meet God (aka Lemmy)
PD. Who writes your songs, what are they about?
WD. Andy handles the riffs. Jordan takes care of the lyrical content. Song subject matter includes; drugs, Satan, space, and Satan doing drugs in space.
PD. How do you promote your band and shows?
WD. There’s defintely a lot of social media. Luckily we have a lot of supportive friends and fans who will share our new merch/videos/music on their facebook or instagram. We definitely don’t limit ourselves to social media though, nothing can replace good old fasioned word of mouth.
PD. What do you think about downloading music online?
WD. People who collect physical music will buy a physical copy. It seems like downloading (legally and illegally) is going away, with services like spotify and apple music.
PD. What’s your outlook on the record industry today?
WD. It’s a lot easier to DIY music now-a-days. A lot of bands have a member or two with enough recording gear to self record. Virtually anybody can upload their music to all the major platforms, which can be a dual edged sword, but it’s definitely good for getting self published underground music out there. The market is definitely over-saturated at the moment, so it is a must to standout among your peers.
PD. What song do you wish you’d written and why?
WD. Sweet leaf. That’s probably pretty self explanatory.
PD. What are some of your pet peeves?
WD. When a movie trailer shows all the good parts of the movie, and then you wast $10 going to see that movie in theaters. Also, sound guys who don’t know how to use reverb.
PD. What is your proudest moment in music?
WD. Probably putting out Astrological Passages on vinyl. As well as getting signed to Electric Valley records. As a band we’ve had a lot of accomplishments, it can almost be hard to pick one thing to be most proud of. It seems like every week we all have another “Wow, This (thing) happened” moment.
