Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD. What type of artist are you?

We are a four-piece rock band.

PD. Tell us the brief history of yourself.

The band got started off by a gumtree advert by Zak a few years ago. We recorded some demo songs in our home studio and got the songs out playing at live events in London. In 2017 we released our first EP and video and only a few weeks ago we had our second release Strange Voices out on online music platform. I recommend checking out the stunning video directed by the really talented Lisa Carletta and Romain Ferrand.

PD. Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

The fun thing is we all have diverse taste in music. We have been inspired by artists like Young Fathers, Bon Iver, Bloc Party, Foals, Daft Punk, Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes. In one of our early demos we had samples from a Lykke Li song and we used to play a cover of a song by AlunaGeorge.

As for non musical influences being in based in London it’s not hard to get our brain cells excited by the cultural ferment taking place here.

PD. What are your dreams and goals?

Our music goal is to have our songs listened and enjoyed by as many people as possible. We love playing live too so our short term goal is to get on some fun stage at festivals.

PD. Who writes your songs, what are they about?

Usually Zak comes up with the initial idea and then we all iterate on it together, writing parts in the rehearsal room and then refining the structure and the sounds in studio.

The songs have a few recurring themes like the inability to communicate with people close to you. We like to use music to express things we can’t say.

PD. How do you promote your band and shows?

It’s mainly social media these days.

PD. What do you think about downloading music online?

Whatever makes it easier for people to listen and find out about new music.

PD. What song do you wish you’d written and why?

Each one of us will give you a different answers. I was at BST a few weeks ago and while listening to Just Like Heaven by The Cure I definitely thought I wished I’d written that song.

PD. What are some of your pet peeves?

It’s awful how some artists pay their way into visibility, media coverage and gig slots and how some promoters encourage and profit from it.

PD. What is your proudest moment in music?

So far the most rewarding thing is having people showing up at the gig because they heard our songs and liked them.

PD. So what are you working on at the moment?

Writing new songs and putting together a new EP.

PD. Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

We haven’t confirmed any date yet. Keep in eye on our website, we’ll have some shows in London late August. Have a look at some of our videos, we put on a great show and the kind of music we make works great in a live setting!
