Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
V: I’m the guitarist of Veritas, a hard rock/metal band
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
V: I started playing guitar at age 15 after hearing KISS and deciding that’s what I wanted to do. I played in several cover bands as I learned and eventually started writing my own music after a few years.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
V: Some of my current favorite guitarists are Criss Oliva, Yngwie Malmsteen, George Lynch, Ace Frehley, Alex Skolnick, Chris Degarmo and Michael Wilton, Jon Drenning and Ben Jackson. Non musical influences are friends and family for believing in me and giving me the work ethic I have.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
V: Since I’ve been playing guitar, my dream has been to be able to make a living playing music and travel the world. The current goal is to get more people to hear Veritas and continue working on the next cd.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
V: Everyone writes their own parts, so we’re all responsible for the song as a whole. It starts with the main guitar part. Mark Zonder adds drums then Geno adds bass and Denny adds the vocals. The song lyrics are written so everyone can decide for themselves what they’re about.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
V: We have a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/veritasmusickc) and an official website (www.veritas.rocks). We’re also currently working with Angels PR to help get more exposure for the band
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
V: It’s great for marketing but if you like what you hear, it’s very important to support the band in some way by either buying some merch or buying the cd.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
V: I love so many bands and songs but never really wished I written them. I just love everything that makes them unique from other bands. I also don’t try to write a song to sound like a certain artist. They just come out as a sum of my influences.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
V: I really despise liars and cheaters. If you can’t be truthful and loyal I won’t be around long.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
V: Probably the first time I learned a song by ear or the very first show we played. The first release of original music is also up there.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
V: Currently we’re still marketing our latest release, Veritas-Threads of Fatality, working on the next cd and searching for a drummer for live shows.
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
V: No shows scheduled currently but once we are able to play live, show up to hear some great music and see a high energy show.
