Until I Wake – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?
Until I Wake is a four piece Metal-core band from Buffalo, New York with explosive energy, a good look, a fresh new vibe, and a unique sound of their own that has been compared to bands such as Asking Alexandria, Underoath, Saosin & We Came As Romans.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
The band was built off of some of the best musicians and performers out of Buffalo, Ny who all have built in chemistry working together with one another at some point on prior projects. Finally we were able to pull each member together to focus on one particular project with the goal to make the best possible music and to put on the best possible live performance we could and after a year of building behind the scenes we were finally debut. This massive project became “Until I Wake”.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
Some of our biggest musical influences would consist of Bring Me The Horizon & Linkin Park. Bring Me The Horizon is a huge influence because of the way they have all grown over time, taking one completely different sound and over time developing that into something extremely different, maturing their sound and overall composure in such a smart and professional manner. They also have clearly displayed their professionalism by the way they handle any press over time, positive or negative. Linkin Park has been a huge influence by the way they made an impact on music as a whole. Linkin Park brought on a whole new sound and through this and their lyrical content, they have made in our minds, a massive impact on the music world.

Our Non musical influences would consist of life events we all endure. Whether it’s a struggle, overcoming the struggle. The obstacles we overcome and how.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?
Our dream as a band would be to successfully tour the world playing in front of massive crowds alongside other professional artists. Until I Wake has tons of goals. I would say our short term goals would be to team up with solid management and to sign to a label. A bit further out from now we want to be touring the country as well as beginning to tour outside the country… the sooner we hit these goals the better!

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
The entire band plays a part in our song writing but the lyrics are handled by Cody. So far the songs explore a variety of different obstacles one can deal with in life. We’ve written about dealing with struggles in ones self image, addiction, depression, as well as overcoming them.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
We haven’t played any shows as Until I Wake just yet. As far as promoting our band, we have a built in fan base that we have each individually built overtime that help out a lot with spreading the word. Posting new content, videos, links to other social media’s. Between us and our dedicated fans/friends we don’t have any trouble spreading our music to new ears across the globe.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
Downloading music online is fine. If fans are looking for a quick way to acquire their favorite bands new music as soon as it releases or whenever they feel the need it’s at their fingertips immediately and that’s awesome. However buying a cd or a collectible record, though it may be old school nowadays, is still the best! It’s always awesome having a physical cd of your favorite artists with a booklet of lyrics and art!

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
I think that an awesome song to have to claim that we’ve written would be “Numb” by Linkin Park. The lyrics in that song are extremely meaningful and the instrumental is perfect and the song as a whole is HUGE!

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
Music related pet peeves? Musicians who are struggling with the grind, giving up on themselves easily and early on. There’s so much to learn and with books, the internet, YouTube, friends, watching your favorite bands make moves… there’s so many different ways to learn and grow. Sometimes it’s as simple as just asking people you see making moves. Another pet peeve would be the bands/musicians who like to talk down on their scene or other artists on the same grind as them. Everyone has a goal and everyone should focus on it. Nobody should have enough available spare time to spend on bringing others down. It’s a useless act of desperation.

Non music related pet peeves?? …. people chewing with their mouth open… hahahahaha! Gross.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
As a band I believe our proudest moment thus far would be surpassing 50,000 views on our debut music video in one week. Reaching over 40,000 Spotify streams in two weeks with over 16,000 monthly listeners.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
We recently just hit the studio in Michigan to write a sixth track, which ended up being a banger! Now we have to hustle at getting out everything else that we’ve written out to everyone before releasing this latest track.

We are also heading to NYC to record our second music video for a track called “Self Medicated” which is set to be released in March!!!!

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
Our first show is TBD! We strictly planned that we would not begin touring or playing any shows without the proper team backing Until I Wake. We want to line up everything behind the scenes before hitting the road!
