Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
T: We are a metal duo, father (Tommy) and son (Adam), from the northern part of Sweden.
Our music is primarily within the metal/hardrock genre including melodic guitars, heavy bass and strong drumbeats. We have been compared to works from bands, such as In Flames, Soilwork and Amon Amarth
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
T: We started to play together, 5 years ago, just for fun and without any further plans. We are both into the metal genre and we started to play and experiment with parts of classic heavy metal songs with cool drumbeats and cool guitar riffs, e.g. Metallica, Ghost etc.
I played the drums and mixed/mastered our tracks and my son took care of the guitar and bass tracks. Soon, we started to experiment and record covers and wanted to share our music with family and friends. The idea of starting a YouTube-channel came up 2018 and at the same time we agreed on the name “Trumbiten”. We started the YouTube-channel early 2019 and uploaded different of instrumental covers followed by our first cover on streaming media early 2020.
It was fun to play instrumental covers, but we wanted to develop our music further and also include vocals. So, one idea was to add female vocals to cool covers such as Ghost-He is etc. So, I turned to SoundBetter and connected to different session musicians, which resulted in our first original song, with own lyrics, that was released September 2020, “Fear Me”.
And, now we are about to release our first original EP with three songs…This is really amazing and was never on our minds only 2 years ago.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
T: My interest for the Metal genre got a real kick when I heard Metallica’s track “Whiplash” on the radio first time, I think mid 1984, …after that I was fully into heavy metal.
After that I have been inspired by drumbeats from the Disturbed (Down with the sickness), Metallica (Lars Ulrich drumbeats), Dissection (God of forbidden light), Arch Enemy (Eagle flies alone) etc
Non-musical influences are mostly related to people that are creative and innovative, like Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Daniel Ek
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
T: To keep inventing and pursue the music journey
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
T: I (Tommy) write the lyrics and as I’m a drummer I like to find and explore cool drumbeats or tribal beats.
I like to build my songs from drum and bass lines and find a certain mood or emotion that follows the initial tracks. At this stage I often start to write lyrics related to different emotions or feelings that fit the initial tracks.
When that reaches a certain maturity then I involve other musicians like vocals and guitarists and let them add their touch and tone to the songs.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
T: We are newcomers and have very limited experience of promotion in general. This time we have some professional help from Dewar PR, which is really great!
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
T: I think it is unnecessary since almost all music is available online via streaming services, why download? It is so old school (at least I think so)
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
T: Spontaneously, I’m thinking of the drumbeats in “Down with the sickness” by Disturbed as they have a really cool tribal intro that appeal to me as a drummer or Metallica “Sad but true” has really cool drumbeat.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
T: We have a dog called Stella (a Bichon Havanaise) who bring us joy everyday.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
T: The release of our first original single “Fear Me”. That was an really awesome moment.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
T: We are working on three new songs that we plan to release during the fall.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from
T: Trumbiten can be found on streaming services like Spotify, AppleMusic, Deezer etc
