Toby Jepson releases new retrospective solo album ‘Viewfinder’ and lyric video for ‘Unwind’
Originally featured on his 2002 comeback EP ‘Refresh’; ‘Unwind’ is an upbeat anthemic slice of alternative rock, tinged with pop smarts, that captures the Wayward Sons frontman in fine form. This re-released track is accompanied by a brand new lyric video:
Toby Jepson – Unwind
“As I was resurfacing back into the fickle world of the music business back in 2002, I wrote ‘Unwind’ as a way of trying to explain my deep feelings of unease – about what I’m not really sure if I’m honest. There in lies the rub of anxiety and stress – it’s often hidden from view. I guess most of it was caused by the very ordinary need to navigate life and figure myself out having been away from music for quite some time; ‘am I good enough?’ ‘Will anyone care?’ – the imposter syndrome in action. Being a song writer allows for self examination and this song definitely underlines my needs at the time to seek a better way of relaxing and…well, unwinding.
I love this video. I left Jay (the director and creator) to his own devices. I asked him to use old film footage and he inadvertently used one of my favourite silent films – Nosferatu – as the basis. Great minds and all that. It perfectly sums up those intense feelings of stress and anxiety that I’m sure we all feel from time to time.” – Toby Jepson
‘Unwind’ is taken from Toby Jepson’s new retrospective compilation album ‘Viewfinder’, which is available to stream and download now.
