Threatpoint – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

T: Threatpoint is a Thrash/Groove metal band, but more like a classic thrash band, especially on our latest album. Yet we incorporate a little bit of different styles of metal and some plain old hard rock.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

T: Threatpoint started back in March of 2012 in Scranton,Pa. Remnants of two old bands sat down at a restaurant and came up with a plan…almost 7 years later we are still standing.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

T: We all have different influences. Each guy in the band has different backgrounds as we grew up in different times. One thing in common is we all love thrash metal and that’s what unites us. Saying that

we range from 80s hair metal, classic rock the 60s and 70s, 90s-2000s hard rock and nu-metal bands, 80s pop. We also have jazz, classical and country amongst us. No rap,No hip-hop!

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

T: Dreams are to obviously find a label that actually does something for us, Goals defiantly play overseas.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

T: Musically we all write, Alex and I (C.James) come up with the riffs, only thing is I don’t sing and play guitar live, I wasn’t always a singer so I never developed that back to play complex riffs and sing over the top.

Sometimes CJ starts off with a cool beat and that leads to writing with the drums vs writing alone. Then the music always bounces back n forth sometimes many times before it comes to a completion. Lyrically I write all my own songs. I write about real life, stories from other people that I’ve encountered, I’m very positive even though there is an aggressive side of the music, but I incorporate my spiritual side to my lyrics. There is enough negativity and pain in this world, I chose to show the other side, Everyone gets knocked down, but it’s what you do once you’re down that determines the outcome of your future.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

T: Anyway and everyday we can. Social media, still hang posters around like old days, emails, texts. We also have a PR guy in the U.K. that’s helps us.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

T: Legally is fine, I buy everything through iTunes, I never liked carrying cassettes or Cds, I love its all on my iPod or phone. I can download a new album on release day be listening to it immediately.

Illegally, this has damaged the whole industry. All the musicians work hard and pay good money to record. Maybe we should just walk up and steal someone’s personal car, and say well you got money buy another one…

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

T: Oh there’s so many of those to choose, Maybe “Break on Through” by The Doors, because that’s what hooked me on music as a small kid…

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

T: Bands that do not move on stage or dress like they care.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

T: Anytime someone tells you your music saved them, or changed their life or helped them through a tough times in their life. That’s very rewarding.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

T: We are adding the new songs into the sets from our latest release, plus we are doing some classic metal covers for fun.

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

T: So many coming up, thanks to our new management team “Voodoo Queen Management” we are heading into Canada for the first time. plus a string of shows out west and down south’s well as a few Summer festivals
