The Unsung – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
-We’re a band that deliveries an electrifying performance at every show and leaves a lasting impression on our audience.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
-The Unsung began in 2015 gaining a foothold in the local Southern California metal scene and releasing a debut EP titled, ‘Rise’. After a change of lineup, the two founding members, Devin Castro and Tyler Sinclair, were joined by Thomas Sumstine and Garrett Brown in mid 2018. The band has been releasing content including several music videos with a combined >100k views, acquiring endorsements, and sharing the stage with large acts such as The Word Alive, Miss May I, and We Came As Romans.
PD: How would you describe your style?
-We have strong Metalcore roots with subtle touches of progressive metal, mixing things up into one cohesive sound with the consistency of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal and allusions to the great melodic leads of the 80’s. That sound combined with our ultra-high intensity live performances creates an experience that is sonically beautiful and highly engaging, staying with the audience long after the show has ended.
PD: Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
-The Unsung is based out of Southern California. The music scene is competitive, yet blooming with underground talent. Two very notable local bands we would authentically recommend are Aslyus and He Films The Clouds.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
-We are driven to tour internationally, perform at various festivals, and aspire to become a household name.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
-We all contribute instrumentally and leave lyrical content mostly to our singer; many of the songs speak to the theme of looking out for hope, whether it be near or far. Other songs include fighting through struggles of life difficulties and sometimes addiction.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
-We make outlandish announcement videos for social media content, and we talk about upcoming content/shows face-to-face with friends, family, coworkers, customers, and strangers.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
-It’s great because the lion-share of revenue as a band is made by selling merchandise and touring. Let our music be heard by whatever means necessary.
PD: Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
-Our music is available for streaming/purchase on all major streaming platforms in the link below!
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
-Every time our guitarist surfs his instrument on top of the crowd and they carry him, it makes the rest of us proud to be part of this band. We also recently saw one of our fans get our band logo tattooed on them and that was extremely humbling.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
-We are filming a music video for an upcoming single, writing music for our next released, and planning to tour later this year.
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
-Our next shows are scheduled for this summer; where we will be headlining, calling all the shots and making it the kind of rock/metal show that made the genre so well loved.
