The Trend – New Interview

The Trend – New Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

TT: The Trend are a Postpunk Powerpop Band who formed in 1978. After releasing our debut single Teenage Crush which got to number 20 in the independent charts we signed to Universal Music on MCA Records. After numerous singles and tours of the UK the band called it a day.

In 2017 a promoter contacted me regarding putting the band together for a one off gig which prompted us to put some music out there.

To date we have released 2 albums and an EP, been featured on 3 compilation albums and our Current single Vote For Me US ELECTION remix is available on all digital platforms.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

TT: The Trend have a very eclectic set of influences. We always namecheck our peers at the time of us forming the first time round such as Costello, Joe Jackson, Squeeze and always The Beatles and The Stones. These days however  we tend to work on anything from ABBA to ZZ Top as influences.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

TT: We are very lucky in The Trend in so far as we have 5 very strong songwriters.

This comes across so well on our latest album Bella Vega which has everything one could wish for on an album from 3 minute ace, quirky Pop Songs to the grand finale on the album Dont Throw It Away which is a 7 and a half minute epic of a track.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

TT: We normally gig as much as possible but obviously things are different these days.

We have spent more time on videos this year as this is something that we can do separately but brings us together in a musical unity.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

TT: You know it’s a weird thing. On the one hand it’s amazing that people are buying and listening to us Worldwide, USA, Europe, Australia and many many more.

But, there is always a but, the money that the Artists are getting is just sodding ridiculous. The situation will have to change if we are going to have a next generation of musicians.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

TT: Always so hard to answer. Good Vibrations The Beach Boys. A timeless epic that takes you to a new dimension.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

TT: Currently. Queuing up to get in the Pub, Bank or shop.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

TT: Easily the first play on Radio 1 back 1979. I can still remember it like it was yesterday.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

TT: We have a new single Vote For Me US ELECTION remix out now with a rather tasty video to go with it.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
