The Stone Eye – Interview

The Stone Eye – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?
TSE: The Stone Eye is a band based out of Philadelphia, PA (USA) which blends Alternative/Grunge undertones with a wide variety of influences ranging from Doom to Indie.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
TSE: Well, I started jamming with friends back in Middle School playing a variety of covers ranging from Alice in Chains to Green Day. Around 2012 I started dabbling in writing my own music, and formed a little band around that. Around 2013 I met our Drummer Jeremiah, and we went on to from The Stone Eye in 2014. Since then, we’ve been releasing on average an album a year (with our latest being our 2020 LP Ventura), and have been touring all over the Eastern half of the United States.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
TSE: Off the top of my head- All the boys from Alice in Chains, Josh Homme, Jimi Hendrix, Liam Gallagher, Chris Cornell, Dean Ween, etc.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

TSE: To play music and not worry about what I am going to eat that night or where I am going to sleep.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

TSE: I (Stephen) write the majority of our songs. In regards to the lyrics- honestly, the songs tend not to have one singular “meaning”. I more so just try to write based off of the imagery I feel like I am seeing when i’m writing the tune, and general moods I’ve been in which get exacerbated by listening to the tune. It’s not so much raw and personal as much as it is trying to put chrome onto a painting.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
TSE: Every way a band in 2020 does it! Interviews, content, advertisement, social media posts, etc.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
TSE: It sucks as a musician, but we all are guilty of it. You just can’t beat the convivence of having entire discographies at your fingertips.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

TSE: Hmm. Maybe “To Be Someone” by The Jam? That’s just a song that has always clicked with me and I feel as though speaks to everyone’s “child” side where everything seems so limitless.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
TSE: When someone picks up the control after munching on Doritos. It’s just like why man!

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
TSE: Honestly just to say that our band is where it is at right now. It took a lot and to finally see us being somewhere on the music map is cool.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
TSE: The follow up to our latest record, Ventura. Currently deep into the mixing stages of that one. Two releases in 2020? Keep your eyes peeled!

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
Everything is online. You can find it anywhere that sells or streams music- Bandcamp, Amazon, Spotify. You name it, it is probably there.
