The Sourheads Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD. What type of artist are you?

The Sourheads. We are a blues, heavy rock, stoner, classic rock, punk, rock band from Wakefield West Yorkshire. We try not to be genre specific as we don’t know what we are going to write next.

PD. Tell us the brief history of yourself.

TS. The band has been going for a number of years but as it is now we have been together since 2016. I worked as a producer for the band and when founding member Sid left I took over. We used to be more indie sounding prior to me joining. I brought the rock.

PD. Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

TS. Musically I would say Iggy and the Stooges The Doors, early Alice Cooper, The New York Dolls. We have four completely different personalities so it’s not really easy to pinpoint any one influence. We are all quite artistic people and support the Arts in general.

PD. What are your dreams and goals?

TS. A tour of America would be cool. Playing some of the larger festivals such as Download, Leeds and Reading. Continuing tour write and release our music is the most important goal as we have so much more left to say.

PD. Who writes your songs, what are they about?

TS. We all right the music and Jake writes the lyrics. He has a very strange thought process that is Multi layered. We have songs about demons, possession, relationship breakdowns, general rock and roll shenanigans, and the urge to always be inspired.

PD. How do you promote your band and shows?

TS. We tend to use PR companies for our press and we have large amount of Gigs set up through networking. It’s highly important for a band to play as many places as possible and not just be hometown heroes.

PD. What do you think about downloading music online?

TS. It’s great. Bands have to accept that times are changing and music is now available on multiple sources. We still have a loyal audience who buy our vinyl and CDs but the younger crowd tend to use Spotify or apple music etc. The band needs to get to as many people as possible so we embrace all forms of Media.

PD. What song do you wish you’d written and why?

TS. No song in particular, any song that’s not four chords and designed just to sell and make money. Our songs a pretty deep and we like to look at them as pieces of art. Songwriters claim they ain’t making money anymore, well what about writing a song that’s not just for chords all the way through.

PD. What are some of your pet peeves?

TS. Been pigeonholed into musical genres. There is plenty of room for all different kinds of music. Fake press is annoying. Larger press publications that won’t cover you because they claim there is too much competition but then offer you an advert for £1,000.

PD. What is your proudest moment in music?

TS. Releasing our debut album on vinyl and getting our record deal.

PD. So what are you working on at the moment?

TS. We are currently in the middle of a 15 date UK tour and writing our second album. We just like to keep active and do interviews. Try to build the fan base and continue to do what we love.

PD. Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

TS. Our are explosive and full of energy we like to give or we can to the audience. We have a few festivals lined up and as I said we are in the middle of our tour. Come check us out! Everything you need to know is on The Sourheads website thank you for taking the time to interview us.
