Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
TS: We can be described as a fusion of various musical styles, blending elements of rock, psychedelia, and experimental sounds. Our music aims to create an immersive and introspective experience, delving into esoteric themes and exploring the depths of the human psyche.
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
TS: The members of The Sigil come from diverse musical backgrounds, each bringing their unique experiences and talents to the band. We all share a deep passion for music and a desire to express ourselves creatively. Our journey into making music started as a form of personal expression, and over time, we realized that we could connect with others through our art.
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
TS: We draw inspiration from many artists who have pushed the boundaries of rock music. We are also influenced by esoteric and occult philosophies, literature, and visual arts, which inform the themes and concepts in our songs. We like to explore existential questions, mystical experiences, and the human condition in our lyrics, creating a sense of mystery and introspection.
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
TS: As artists, our aspirations are multifaceted. Firstly, we aim to continue evolving and exploring new musical territories, pushing the boundaries of our creativity. We want to create music that resonates with people on a deep level and provokes thought and introspection. Additionally, we hope to build a dedicated fanbase and perform our music in front of live audiences worldwide, creating a transcendent and immersive experience for our listeners.
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
TS: One of our proudest moments will most certainly be the release of our EP “Argante”. It is the culmination of years of hard work and creative exploration. Seeing the positive response so far from our fans and the music community has been incredibly rewarding. It confirmed that our art has the power to touch people’s lives and connect with them on an emotional level.
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
TS: Promoting music in the digital age can be challenging, but it also presents opportunities for reaching a wider audience. We embrace the digital landscape by utilizing social media platforms, maintaining a strong online presence, and engaging with our fans directly. We also collaborate with music blogs, online magazines, and playlists to help spread the word about our music. Building a strong online community and fostering meaningful connections with our fans is crucial to our promotional efforts.
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
TS: When it comes to booking and promoting live shows and tours, we will eventually work closely with management and booking agents. They will help us secure gigs, coordinate logistics, and promote our performances. We are currently planning to create immersive live experiences that incorporate visuals, lighting, and stage design to enhance the atmosphere of our music. Details will eventually be announced on our official website and social media channels.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
TS: We believe that downloading music online can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, it provides accessibility and convenience for music listeners. On the other hand, it poses challenges for artists in terms of fair compensation for their work. Streaming sites like Spotify have become popular platforms for music consumption, allowing us to reach a broader audience. However, the royalty rates offered to artists on these platforms can be quite low. It’s important for fans to support artists by purchasing their music or merchandise directly, as it helps sustain their creative endeavors.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
TS: Hard to say, I’m sure we all could come up with a lot of songs like that. But if we had to choose one song, it would be “November Rain” by G’n’R. This iconic song is a masterpiece in terms of composition, lyrical depth, and emotional impact. Its timeless quality and enduring popularity are testaments to its brilliance.
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
TS: Like any industry, the music industry has its shortcomings. One aspect we would like to change is the focus on commercial success over artistic integrity. Sometimes, there is pressure to conform to certain trends or expectations in order to achieve mainstream success. We believe that artistry should be driven by genuine expression and exploration, rather than solely catering to commercial interests. It would be wonderful to see more support and recognition for artists who take risks and push boundaries.
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
TS: Currently, we are fully immersed in the creative process, working on new material for our upcoming album. We are experimenting with different sonic landscapes and diving deeper into the esoteric themes that inspire us. This stage of creation is incredibly exciting and allows us to explore new musical territories while staying true to our artistic vision.
