Interview with Scott Bell Vocals/Guitar of The Reasons Why and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
SB: I started playing guitar late in life, around 18. I did it to impress a girl! But after 3 months, I totally ignored the girl and became obsessed with guitar! Safe to say I never had a chance, so whatever it all worked out! I started writing songs and slowly improving and here we are today! There’s so much more too it, but It that’s the foundation!
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
SB: Musical? Jerry Cantrell, Kurt Cobain, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Rob Thomas are probably my biggest/favourite (again , so much more!)
Non-Musical? Dante and the Divine comedy and Probably the Dalai Lama.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
SB: To find me, in whatever it is that I do is always a goal, a dream would be to own a heard of alpacas!
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
SB: Mainly me and our ex guitarist Brodie Carver. But we are really mixing some things up right now! Our songs mainly cover personal reflections we have about the world or ourselves. No love songs! Or songs about lovers! Its banned hahah
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
SB: Mainly Facebook, but we are working really hard to expand at the moment. So once our new album comes out on November the 10th We will be spreading it like herpes.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
SB: For unknown bands like us, its great, It really helps it get out there, but for artists paying huge money to record and produce an album, I don’t agree. When you buy an album you support the artist, but you never know how much the label takes… it’s a good question now I think about it!
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
SB: I wish I wrote “down in a hole” by Alice in Chains. I find this song really emotional and deep without being emotional and deep! Or maybe simple man by skinnard? I love a song that’s easy to listen too and has a deeper meaning, one that stops the world and grabs your attention.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
SB: The Australian Music scene, its so lost to pop and RnB now. I would love to see a massive resurgence in rock!
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
SB: Playing with The Angles. A massive Australian band… I was so smashed I barely remember it though ☹
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
SB: Pretty much the next album! I never stop song writing.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
SB: At the moment Youtube has all our film clips! So feel free to head there for a listen. Then on November 10…. EVERYWHERE!!!
