The Powergoats

The Powergoats are an Ottawa rock outfit delivering a strong range of musical dynamics, great songwriting with lyrical flare and high-energy stage shows. Musical influences include David Bowie, The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, fellow Canadians Blue Rodeo, and the golden era of The Rolling Stones. The lineup includes songwriter/front-man Jamie Douglas, multi-instrumentalist Andrew Burns on bass and keyboards, Wes Reed on drums (Jack MacGregor for winter shows), and Jeff Logan on lead guitar. Filling out the lineup on occasion are Scott Irving on keyboards and DeeDee Butters on backing vocals.

The Powergoats formed by accident nearly seven years ago. Having played solo and band gigs since he was a teen in the early 90s, Jamie Douglas had also spent many years writing and performing in film, radio, television while touring across North America and the Caribbean (including a 2003 Canadian Forces Show Tour in the Persian Gulf). In 2008 Jamie and songwriter David Hart cut a very rough demo of original bluesy rock tunes together. On a lark they packaged them as an ‘album’ complete with a Jamie’s logo-branded band name and submitted it to The Ottawa Bluesfest Collective (placing local music in local retailers). That ‘release’ (which has been discontinued) made the cut and somehow ended up in eleven local music retailers. Jamie saw this as an opportunity to form an earnest band out of The Powergoats. David Hart parted ways with The Powergoats in 2012 to form other projects including his current band ‘Occasional Angels’.

Since their first show in 2009, The Powergoats have released three more CDs and have played well over one hundred shows at many Ottawa/Gatineau venues as well as Ottawa Bluesfest (2010, 2011, 2016). They’ve shared stages with Rise Against, The Lost Fingers, The Free Press, The Joe Crown Trio, Brock Zeman, James McMurty, PAINT, Ty Hall, Hearts&Mines, Bluestone, Cold Capital, Arms of the Girl, Mosley, The Superlative, Three Times Lucky, Owl Eyes Project, Tribe Royal, Torn Beloved and Hello Hello, among others. The Powergoats have enjoyed Ottawa radio support from CBC Radio One, Live 88.5 FM, CHUO FM, CHIP 101.7 FM, 101.9 DAWG FM, and CKDJ 107.9.
