It’s been more than five years since the release of our last record, Windows and Stones. After a long period of songwriting, we are getting in touch to share “Lightning” with you, a new track which reflects the masochistic side of a past relationship.
For a long time I romanticized everything about it, reminiscing over the pleasure within the pain. Eventually, I woke up to the reality that it just didn’t work, but there’s still this sick thrill from going through hell for someone you think you’re meant to be with.
This song broke our writer’s block, setting us on the path to create the songs which make up our forthcoming album.
Neil Morrissey, our friend and creative partner, produced “Lightning” with us. It was a fun and collaborative experience for the band, especially between our guitarists, Taylor and Nick. Their friendly competitiveness pushed the song into guitar heaven with Taylor’s droning hooks in the choruses and Nick’s unorthodox anti-solo.
Getting stoned and eating all of the Cinnamon Toast Crunch is the perfect way to rip into this song.
