The BlackLava – Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
We are a rock band. We are Italian but our lirycs are in english. We are Friends first of all. We are many things and everything we do for fun! we are four guys, four friend, a family. we started this project in 2014. we all came from another bands and from different genre (Hardcore – Posthardcore – Metal – Punk). We started this project as a game and step by step it has become more and more important. We try to involve our friends in artistic way (doing videos or graphics) and we try to do almost everything by ourselves. Our singer Karlo made some videos (I’m gonna Leave you, Devil Inside me and Drunk Like Joe cocker) and some graphics too. Our guitarist own a Recording Studio and made our productions. Our Drummer Made the artist graphics and The bassist is our booking manager. So we are complete 🙂
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
Our first EP “Sweet Meat” was released in 2016. In 2018 was released the first album “As Black As My Heart”, promoted with a tour in Italy, France and Holland. In May 2019 we published an acoustic single “I’m Gonna Leave You” then in September a new song “Devil Inside Me” and later on the song “Drunk Like Joe Cocker” In November 2019 we signed with Frozen Heart, a German record label. PD. Who are your musical and non-musical influences? We are Influenced by 90’s and 00’s rock scene. Bands like Audioslave, Queens of the Stoneage, Blackstone Cherry and new bands like Royal Blood and Rival Sons. We are also inspired by many tv series like Lucifer, Dark, Izombie and many more.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
We would like to spread our music abroad. We don’t like te Italian scene and Italian Music. Everyone has his favorite cup of tè, our it’s not here:)
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
Our singer write the principal riffs and Lirycs. They speak about feelings, Icons, sex and we speak about some characters of Tv Series. He takes the lyrics instinctively!
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
Through Instagram, Facebook. We try to stay connected to our fans!
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
We like Spotify, Apple Music, You Tube. you can upload your music whenever and wherever you want! You can be an artist without compromise. However there is too much music in the world and sometimes it is bad, played badly, out of tune, out of time! In the past what you listened to was perfect but if had no money you had little chance of succeeding.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
We’d have liked to write a song of other times like SmokeOnTheWater or StairwayToHeaven or ConfortablyNumb because are songs that have surely influenced the rock in these years and have inspired so many musicians! We would really love to inspire people with our music and our work
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
We hate all the bands and all the people that think to be an artist. They look at you like you’re no-one. we had success in some way and they think to be better than you. When we are on tour we try to known the other bands or Local-owner and the most of the time they are unpleasant. In Italian we said “ Tirarsela”, it means that you are like a fantastic girl but you think to be the only girl in the world 🙂 We had fun when we play and we travel so why don’t you?
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
Every time we release a new song, its a proud moment for us!!! It’s like introducing something to the world that you’ve committed to hard and invested in all of your energies… sharing our music with everyone is really the
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
In February we will release a new song called “Woman” and a new Video with a story and later on a remix of “Bones” form “As Black As My Heart”.
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
In this period we are playing acoustic shows in our Town (Turin) and maybe in the summer we’ll play in Germany!
