Now under the guiding wing of (UK/US) label Engineer Records, the Kent (UK) based alchemist of alternative folk-rock unleashes his official video single for ‘Pushing Me Away’.
Currently writing and producing material for release later this year, Steve Hewitt has honed his song & stage craft through extensive gigging both in the UK and overseas raking in support slots with the likes of Star Sailor, Toploader, The Hoosiers and Newton Faulkner. Adding further to his credentials, the accomplished musician has toured in the US with the Reed Brothers.
Blending a diverse mix of genres and influences into his music, the young Steve Hewitt developed his love for music and creativity during his mid-teens. Reclusively refining his guitar and vocal skills in his garden shed, Steve immersed himself in the song-writing finesse of Bob Dylan, The Smiths, James Morrison, Ben Howard, Fink, John Legend and his frequent vocal comparator David Gray. What emerged from this education was an understanding and appreciation for melody, emotive hook links, articulate song dynamics and instrumentation. The very key ingredients that makes Steve Hewitt an exciting new artist who can draw upon influences to create his own unique voice.
STEVE HEWITT RELEASES FREE DOWNLOAD OF LIVE ALBUM TRACKS & LIVE VIDEO FOOTAGE
British singer/songwriter ‘Steve Hewitt’ presents a taste of things to come from his debut LP, with the release of his free-download album sampler & live video single.
Recorded as ‘live’ renditions of tracks selected to feature on the highly anticipated ‘Bigger Than Words‘ set for release later in 2018, the songs ‘Healing & Hurt’, ‘Move On’ and ‘Holding Me Back’ showcases Steve at his most intimate and organic; allowing his songwriting & performance abilities to carry his soul-bearing honesty and desire to emotionally connect with his audience. A formula that has enabled Hewitt to share stages with artists such as Newton Faulkner, Emma Stevens, Toploader, StarSailor plus many more. In addition to this generous download EP offer, Steve has also released live video footage of his fan-favoured track ‘Sad Sad Old World’.
The Kent (UK) native has been collaborating with local producer Paul West (Awesome Source Music) to construct an album that compliments Steve’s artistic vision. In Steve’s own words – ‘This Album is full of life, it touches upon heartbreak, hypocrisy, loss, deeper love, truth and wisdom. Every song on this album has been birthed out of experience’. Despite the evident influences of folk, blues, country and alternative rock flowing through Hewitt’s creative veins, the syncretic approach to drawing from multiple sources has helped shape his own distinctive voice within the Alternative -folk roots scene in the United Kingdom.
Whilst steeped in the earthy acoustic tones and allowing simplicity to carry the message of his songs, ‘Bigger Than Words’ is tastefully merging natural, acoustic and electronic sounds. Aiming for a more expansive sound to bring his songs to life – Steve Hewitt has enlisted in guests such as UK country trio Orfila and Texan duo The Reed Brothers. Further guests appearances include Cellist Miriam Cox who performed on Steve’s’ ‘Pushing Me Away’ debut single for Engineer Records. Producer Paul West features on vocals/drums along with seasoned musicians Joe Martin (Bass), Jonathan Williams(Keyboards) and Rob Townley (Guitar) all adding their stylistic flair to the studio productions.
