Split the Dealer – Dreamstate
‘One of my favourite tracks from lockdown – brilliantly produced, tackling a tough topic in a mature and appealing way’ – Alex West, BBC Introducing Berkshire
Walking the wire between 90’s influence and modern pop, Split The Dealer’s sound is fundamentally honest, working with beautiful restraint and explosive passion, emotional lyrics and cutting edge production.
Over the past year, Sam has gained momentous support from the likes of UniLAD and Music Crowns and was recently invited by HMV to perform exclusively in their Banbury store, as well as performing a digital concert for Sennheiser. This concert then led to Split the Dealer becoming an official Sennheiser artist, earning him a spot on their roster and a coveted endorsement. Split The Dealer are currently also working on an upcoming collaboration with audio software manufacturers Focusrite.
Latest single ‘Dreamstate’ looks set to follow in a similar vein to previous singles ‘XV’ and ‘Chinchilla’. Three and a half minutes of euphoric and anarchic indie-pop that marks Split the Dealer as Jamie T for the Instagram generation. And well it might. With his latest offering acting as a reminder that not all is what it seems on social media.
“I think over the years of social media growing, it’s sucked most of us in at one point or another where we’ve compared ourselves to how someone else looks, or how they are living. It’s easy to feel like you’re falling behind in life, when you compare your day-to-day life to somebody’s highlight reel, and it can plunge you into a rabbit hole of scrolling through other people’s best bits.”
“I wanted ‘Dreamstate’ to carry a real juxtaposition between an upbeat tune that sounds happy and at the same time has an underlying important subject matter, with a darker, more honest feeling in the verses and general lyrics. In the middle 8, I wanted it to convey a feeling of slow-mo falling down a rabbit hole, really bring that Alice in Wonderland vibe.”
