Split The Dealer – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

STD: Energetic and honest. When I started Split The Dealer, I wanted to create songs about things I’d been through, or had friends go through, or just the state of the world. I also have a lot of energy, so when I used to perform slow songs, standing infront of a mic, I’d get bored. I’m so hyped to get back to live shows, so we can jam it out on stage!

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

STD: I didn’t have much money growing up, so i’d always find creative ways to make instruments, like shoe box drum kits aha. I can’t explain what it is, but I’ve always just been drawn to instruments and want to play them.

For a few years I performed singer/songwriter sort of things, which was all the rage aha, but it wasn’t really me. I grow up on Rock/metal and hip hop, and occasionally listened to acoustic stuff, so when starting Split The Dealer, I made sure to be honest with my energy, so I could just be myself on stage!

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

STD: Musical influences, 100% Benjamin Burnley from Breaking Benjamin. He’s got such a mad voice, and talent, but also seems such a down to earth person. Very Humble!

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

STD: I want to walk out onto a festival stage infront of about 20,000 people in the sunshine, and just soak it all in.. the day I do that, I’m probably going to cry hahah

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

STD: I write my tracks, and they’re normally about friends who have suffered with addiction, or just about how I’m feeling. Lockdown was tough at times from getting that four wall feeling of being trapped, so expect a few sad songs soon haha.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

STD: Pretty much wherever I can, when I was working in a pub before lockdown, I used to hand out little business cards to people that seemed chill. also TIK TOK has been amazing for music promo over this last year!

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

STD: Ahh it’s cool, the same with spotify, I think it’s wicked to get discovered so easily, and that brings people to the live shows, and that’s where the fun is!

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

STD: Ahh there’s too many to list, screwloose by Zach Said is a proper tune, and do right by cassia. But anything by linkin park too aha.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

STD: Anyone that’s rude, or treats people like they are beneath them, I’m sure that must use up more energy that being nice aha.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

STD: Probably getting some airplay from Radio 1, and hearing the presenters say your name, pretty wild!

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

STD: I’m currently editing a music video for Dreamstate, which I shot with dann Emmons. It’s my first video directing, so I’m super exciting to get this one out!

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

STD: ooo, so I’m working on some t shirts atm, so they will be avaialble soon. I made some ‘ Split The Dealer potato peelers, but somehow they all went hahah’

Thank you so much for the interview! That was fun!
