Spacejam – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

S: I am an extraterrestrial spider and I come from Mars. I was waiting in the sky for a while and I decided to come and meet you so I could blow your mind cause I know it’s all worthwhile.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

S: I was born in France and raised near Dartford (Kent) in England. I’m a pink monkey bird and grew up with Punk. My first ever gig was the Sex Pistols at Uxbridge University in December 77 I was 12. My first ever recording as an artist was at ARK Studios near London I think in 1982 I was 17. 1992 I moved to Paris and recorded as a pro with my band Bikini in Studio de la Grande Armée (Paris) one of the best recording studios in Europe at the time. We were signed to BMG records and our manager was Marc Barrière who was Indochine and Trust’s manager (The 2 biggest bands France ever had.) We toured Europe. I have released several LP’s on indie Labels. Met Robert Smith of The Cure 1985 we were friends and used to meet regularly and spend lots of great times together.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

S: I have so many musical influences…The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, all the UK and US Punk bands (Sex Pistols, Damned, Clash, Ruts, UK Subs, Ramones, Television, DK, Dead Boys, Bad Brains…) Siouxsie & Banshees, The Cure, Joy Division, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam…

Non-musical: Shakespeare, Aldous Huxley, George Orwell, Albert Camus, JP Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Edgar Allan Poe, Dali, Van Gogh, Gorgio De Chirico, Monet, Manet…The stars, Mars, Pluto, Saturn, The Moon because I’ve been living there since March 2020!

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

S: That people wake up and fight for their rights! I wanna be a star and I won’t stop ’till I die. I know it’s a long way to the top and nothing’s stopping me now. Drinking a good pint in a Pub, fish’n’chips, jumping and swimming in the crowd, playing football in Hyde Park with 500 people!

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

S: I am the only Spider who writes songs I have cut the other spiders legs so they can’t. I don’t know cause I don’t remember, maybe they are about love and hate and human feelings and stupid things like that I guess. You’ll have to find out.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

S: Socials mostly as we don’t have a manager. But If you know a good one who is bored in working with U2, The Cure, Foo Fighters and so on, feel free to contact me.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

S: I think this is GREAT if you pay for it! If not it’s music for nothing and your chicks for free init!

PD: What song do you wish you had written and why?

S: Tomorrow Never Knows by the Beatles because it blows your mind in less than 3mn.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

S: My lyrics, my head, my way and my wife. I often forget them!

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

S: When I played the guitar with Robert Smith from the Cure.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

S: I am working on returning to Mars and avoiding customs and working on new material as well.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

S: We have an EP 4 songs and the new album called “TEN”. You can by it from our website SPACEJAM
