Upbeat indie rockers, Sirocco have just released their charismatic new single, “Be My Saturday”, featuring fiery indie-rock riffs delivered by powerful, overdriven guitars, setting the groundwork for their explosive return to live shows again.
With their catchy indie melodies, distinct vocals and a mixture of equal parts blues-rock and alternative-rock, Newcastle-based Sirocco have been together since 2019 and have developed a distinct and eclectic sound that is utterly compelling.
With their influences ranging from ‘70s punk right through to ‘90s indie-rock, this is a band not afraid to draw upon their inspirations to create a sound that is familiar yet completely their own.
They released their debut album ‘A Day In The Life’ in early 2020. Their range of influences throughout the band really show in their music, with a mix of pop punk, indie and Britpop styles making their music unique and enjoyable.
Turning attention to the story behind the song, Sirocco reveal:
“There’s the typical love story there; boy meets girl at a party. The girl is mad for him, but it takes him a while to realise as he’s too hooked up on getting drunk with his mates. But really there’s more to the boy than what meets the eye…”
Expanding on this, Sirocco explain:
“When he’s alone he really feels the pressure of what’s going on around him. Social media makes him feel like he’s not good enough, or that he doesn’t meet the ‘expectation’ and anxiety really kicks in when he goes to social events, pushing him to feel like he needs to get drunk and high to forget about it all. This is mentioned at the start of the song – ‘you don’t let off any sign of fear, when you’re off the scale and you found yourself
here, you’ve got a crowd, you don’t see it, you’ve got an itch, you don’t feel it’ – as he numbs the pain that he hides from everyone else.”.
Having played venues such as Think Tank, Think Tank Underground, The Globe and Surf Café, Sirocco now set their sights on playing further afield via a re-scheduled tour with dates between September and November, seeing them appear at Hyde Park Book Club (Leeds), The Amsterdam (Glasgow), The Castle Hotel (Manchester), Trinity Bar (London – Fri 10th Sept), and The Cluny (Newcastle – 11th Sept).
