Liverpool based Speed Rock merchants SICK have unleashed their “Time’s Running Out” EP on the unsuspecting ears of a wanting metal nation. The four tracks of energetic, raw rock, coming in at just over 13 minutes will give you your metal fix and then some.
The EP begins with the single “Close Call”. A frantic high energy number that gained the band so many new fans. “Close Call” thunders along like an early Iron Maiden classic. The thumping “Full Force” is next. I love drummer/ vocalist Luke Daley’s intro as he plays like a man possessed in true Thunderstick style. Max McGrath’s stunning guitar solo also stands out on this heavy anthem of a track.
Where SICK differ from a number of other new bands around, is in their ability to directly ‘get the message across’. There’s no wasting time on tempo changes or unnecessary instrumental exchanges, it’s just in your face and to the point metal. This is evident in “Rising Stakes”. This heavily driven song just delivers. From the start to the finish you just know where it is going to go. The awesome power of Josh Thorley’s bass stands out here, give it a listen, it is pretty impressive.
Title track “Time’s Running Out” closes the EP. “Time’s Running Out” has a powerful and memorable chorus that I can imagine would make this a live favourite. Great guitaring from David Bareham and Max McGrath ensure that the attention is immediately drawn to this excellent number.
So all in all “Time’s Running Out” is an EP by a band that is developing into something very special. It is a superb testament to a band that deserve to be seen and heard. I urge you to check these guys out, go to their gigs buy their music and follow them on social media.
