SHTEVIL – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

S: To give you a short answer I’d say a Rock artist. But I’m drawing influences from all kinds of stuff.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

S: I started playing guitar at the age of 15 and started writing songs straight away. Played in bands, cover bands, played as a session musician with tons of artists, wrote songs for other artists did studio sessions. At one point I wanted to make something that embodied who I am combining my love for classic rock with a modern sensibility. Shtevil” was born.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

S: Main musical influences are the classics. Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen, Prince. Non-musical, I’ve always loved comics and superhero movies from when I was little. Larger than life characters with human problems.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

S: Currently living the dream, making music and making a living out of it. But the goal is how long and big can we take this thing of course. I’d love to make some music for movies or series someday.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

S: I write the songs, sometimes I co-write them as well. I love having a conversation and writing from that perspective. Either if it’s a conversation with someone else or a question I ask myself. It makes for the most interesting lyrics in my opinion.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

S: I think social media is something undeniable these days. I try to make engaging visual stuff, music videos, artwork. I think it’s all tied together. You need to send out a unified look and feel all across the line.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

S: I think that downloading will disappear. People can stream anything anywhere, why use up space on your computer or phone. I do think vinyl records or some kind of physical carrier will keep existing. There’s something about holding that artwork in your hands that a screen can’t replace.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

S: Purple Rain, it’s a classic. It’s a song that lights up the room, It’s a song everyone can belt out in unison. And it paints a clear picture in your mind when you hear it.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

S: That a lot of bands forget that they need a big hook or good song for rock & roll to really work. There are a lot of great bands out there that sound huge and have amazing musicianship but they forget about the song.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

S: It’s gotta be driving around I Italy and hearing your song on the radio in another country. I’ll never get used to that!

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

S: Still recording some alternate versions of this latest EP and also working on a n acoustic EP I recorded on cassette this summer.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

S: I have a debut album out on limited edition vinyl and the latest EP that you can get here :
