Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
INTERVIEW Version 1
PD: Introduce yourself in less than 10 words…..
S: we’re shards and we play dream-gaze shoe pop
PD: What’s the writing process?
S: we write music we enjoy. it’s for us, no one else, and if we don’t feel anything towards the song then it doesn’t really work. it’s really easy to blast some chords out and write a song that people are going to like but if you don’t connect with it yourself then what’s the point ?
PD: What come first lyrics or music?
S: The lyrics are usually incoherent nonsense for about 5 months after the song is written so take from that what you will
PD: How did you all meet?
S: i put out a lonely hearts ad and these 3 lads turned up at my door. they all just happened to be able to play instruments. what are the chances
PD: What has been the best gig you’ve ever played and why?
S: we played to 11,000 empty seats in the M&S Bank arena at the end of august which is definitely the most surreal
PD: What was the last track you played on Spotify?
S: four minute warning by Mark Owen (Take That). get on it
PD: What would be on your rider?
S: chilli dogs and prosecco
PD: What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
S: look at the camera
PD: Talk us through the new track / video
S: 2020 is probably one of the only tracks we have that’s upbeat which is quite funny considering how the year has gone. it was only meant to be a working title but i think it just ended up suiting the song a lot more than anything else. “I want to go home” always related to wanting things to go back to how they were and times that you’re nostalgic about so it worked out quite well in the end.

INTERVIEW Version 2
PD: What type of artist are you?
S: a dream-gaze shoe pop band
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
S: i put out a lonely hearts ad and 3 lads turned up at my door. they just all happened to be able to play instruments. what are the chances?
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
S: just like every other band these days, the 90’s
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
S: i think to meet Cheryl Waters from KEXP Radio and have a song on FIFA would be just enough for me.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
S: Either me (Alex) or the guitarist (Paddy) will come up with the original concepts and then it’ll grow from there. They’re generally not about anything in particular but more about creating feelings. nostalgia porn basically

S: mainly our instagram @shardsshards
follow us and we will love u
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
S: anyone reading this please download our music, i don’t care how you do it, illegal or not, we just want you to listen.

S: uptown funk because i’d have a lot more money than i do now
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
S: tribute bands

S: definitely when we got a comment saying we make ‘music for car adverts’
