Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
ST: We are a 5 piece Celtic punk band based in Sheffield. Each member comes from a different area of South Yorkshire, bringing different accents as well as stories that we incorporate into our music.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
ST: The initial idea started around 2 years ago. We spent most of 2019 writing before completing a small UK tour in the winter. This was on the back of our first ever gig supporting The Buzzcocks.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
ST: I’d say musically bands like Flogging Molly, Dropkicks and The Pogues. We all like their music and I think that comes out in what we write. Individually we all like different things as we all come from different backgrounds.
Alex Fell – Lawrence Arms
Tom Hardy – Alexisonfire
Joel Hughes – Howard Marks
Sam Christie – Pablo Escabar
Tom Jackson – Busted/The Lego Movie.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
ST: To be able to tour none stop and make enough money to pay my mortgage!
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
ST: We write them as a group, everyone puts as much effort into each track as the other members. The themes change from song to song, some are about fires that go wild, and some are about causeways that are emerald green.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
ST: Via social media, Sam our singer deals with that side of the band more than anyone to be honest.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
ST: I’m not gonna lie and say I didn’t do it when I was younger, because I did. I do think it’s shit now because it costs a lot of money to record and put music out and I think that’s something people who aren’t involved in music don’t understand. Saying that, I don’t think ITunes and Spotify give bands a more deserving cut from their streams.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
ST: None, If I’d have written one of my favourite songs it would sound different and probably not as good as it does now.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
ST: Load in, load out, interviews.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
ST: As a 15 year old virgin at my first ever live performance, a girl pulled her breasts out. Someone once threw a pair of ladies pants at me while I was on stage. It ended up been an old co worker called Mav. He was balling with laughter.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
ST: We’re working on our next album at the moment and getting ready for our upcoming gigs.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
ST: We’re all over ITunes, Spotify and Bandcamp.
