Seventh Servant – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD:  How would you describe your band as artists?

A: We are a God driven progressive power metal band, with biblical content. We are the new voice of heavy metal, and the new trend setters.

PD:  Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

A: Seventh Servant is based out of Knoxville, Tennessee. I (John Greely) started this project in 2006. I went through several band members, before finding bassist Ginger Sizemore, drummer Shawn Walker, and lead guitarist Miah Lajeunesse. They are a perfect fit for Seventh Servant.

We’ve lost two drummers and our band artist/logo designer, while making this album. All three passed away during the process. We have overcome so much on this journey, but are continually driven to spread God’s word. We keep pressing forward and are a powerful force to be reckoned with.

PD:   Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences?

A:  God gives us the drive to keep moving forward, and so we really want to give him all the glory. The love of music he gives us inspires us everyday to continue.

PD:  What do you like to write about in your songs?

A: Jesus, but we also like to use biblical content, word for word.

PD:  What are your aspirations as an artist?

A: To play in front of huge crowds and to spread the Revelation of Jesus Christ to the masses.

PD:  What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

A: When we received our album ‘The Tree of Life’ in the mail. We were so happy to physically hold the vinyl record in our hands, and to listen to it together.

PD:  Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

A: Lots of great ideas, yet sub quality production is emerging from those bedrooms. The record labels used to do everything for you, but then again they took everything from you too. Q: How do you book and promote your live shows and tours?

We are considering a promotion company to handle all that for us. We will announce it soon.

PD:  Any performances coming up?

A: Spring of 2023 we will have some shows. We are currently working on a small tour here in the United States, but will more than likely play some festivals in Europe too.

PD:  What do you think about downloading music online?

A: We are too far down the rabbit hole to stop it now. There are no gatekeepers anymore. These things have ruined the old model of the music business, and that’s sad in some ways, yet better in others. It’s a two edged sword, really. You just have to roll with the changes.

PD:  What about streaming sites like Spotify?

A: To the artist, they are now a necessary evil, but they enable you to reach a lot of people, and what we want to do is spread God’s word.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

Sentinel by Judas Priest.. Why? Because it’s a killer song.

PD:  Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

A: We wish more record labels were like Roxx Records, and that they would partner with their bands to produce great albums like Roxx has done for us.

PD:  So, what are you working on at the moment?

A: We are currently working on booking some upcoming shows and festivals for 2023, as well as writing new songs for our next album, which is already in progress.

PD:  Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?
