Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
SI: We are a band that plays progressive metal.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
SI: I am Vangelis and I play the keyboards and I sing. Sedate Illusion started as a project between me (Vangelis Kakarougkas) and a good friend (Theodore Pegousis, ex drummer of Equal Vector) in 2004. This project was supposed to gather all the discarded ideas of Equal Vector and put them into Sedate Illusion as instrumental music, so an instrumental album called Illusion was created. As a personal project I released two studio albums in 2010 and 2012. In 2013 the project turned into a full band with Anastasios Kibizis (guitars), Vangelis Glavinas (Bass) and Andreas Alamanos (drums) and we have released 4 full-length albums together since then.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
SI: So many bands, some are Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Savatage, Katatonia, Leprous, Conception, Therion, Metallica, Megadeth, Rage and the list goes on and on.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
SI: To create as much music we can and perform live!
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
SI: Vangelis Kakarougkas is the main composer and lyricist, also some ideas come from Anastasios Kibizis. They are about everyday life, the struggle of it, people’s feelings and anxieties and so many more subjects! There is a wide range in them!
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
SI: Mostly through social media!
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
SI: It’s a thing, yes. How can someone stop this? If it wasn’t the internet it would be something else. The people need to change their mentality about appreciating the artists, but that’s utopia. There is no solution, according to my point of view.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
SI: I really like Black Hole Sun from Soundgarden! I’ve always been a fan of the band and that particular song gives me the chills every time I listen to it!
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
SI: I get excited by some philosophical discussions with my friends and sometimes I want to change their mind through some conclusions I have made.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
SI: Every moment that has to do with either composing/recording new music or live performing!
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
SI: Currently we have our latest album that will be out on 7 of September and it’s called “Sedate Illusion”.
The album is split between two EP’s, because of the nature of the songs. The first EP feels like a more “progressive” style with more upbeat and easy listening songs.
The second EP is more dark and depressing, conveying a great sense of loneliness and fear of dying or getting lost in the chaotic abyss of anxiety and anguish.
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
SI: No scheduled shows for us at the moment, we have other jobs in the music industry as well that gives us money to live. However, we will have a presentation of our latest album in the future some time and you should be there because we are going to play it live and some older songs as well.
