Relentless Souls – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

RS: We are a hard rock/metal band based out of Ellicott City, Maryland

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

RS: Formed in 2015 ‘Relentless Souls’ started off as your typical 2000’s rock band, following several lineup changes the band started to look in other directions, eventually settling on their signature blend of hard rock, heavy metal, and metalcore. 2018 was our first real taste of  success following a nomination for ‘Best Rock Band’ during the 2018 Maryland Music Awards, since then the band released their full-length album ‘Crowd Control’ in April 2019 and has their eyes set on both regional and national expansion. Our current lineup consists of; Tyler Adams (vocals), Sean Levey (Drums), Mike Mastrandrea (lead guitar), Cody Marzec (rhythm guitar), and Konrad Swartz (bass).

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

RS: Musically we are an extremely eclectic group pulling influences from everything from deathcore to southern rock. However we can all agree that comedy is one of the most important things in life, amazing people like Robin Williams, and Jim Carrey are definitely inspirations to us all.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

RS: We just want to be able to play music for a living and not have to constantly worry about money. We all love this job; we love the people, the music, the traveling, and each other there’s nothing else that we could ask from the world than to be able to do this forever.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

RS: Instrumentally each song is a collaborative piece where we record ideas and build off of them as a collective, having each member’s input is important in delivering a final product. As for the lyrics they are almost exclusively handled by our vocalist Tyler, he likes to pull a lot of his lyrics from personal stories and experiences as to provide the most genuine connection possible with our audience.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

RS: We promote our band through most social media platforms; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter Etc. As well as through our website and through good old fashioned flyers and person to person networking.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

RS: Downloading music is both a blessing and curse to the industry, the money an artist makes off of a download does not even come close to the profit generated off of physical music or merchandise. However downloads do allow your music to reach more people across the globe, and that is something that can be crucial to a smaller band such as ourselves, downloads allow people all over the world to help support us even if they can’t obtain our physical merch.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

RS: That’s an extremely difficult question, but ‘One Step Closer’ by Linkin Park is definitely high on our list, just the way that song amps the crowd up every time we cover it is absolutely amazing. All we hope is that we can inspire and connect with people that way through our own music in years to come.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

RS: Loud chewing, scraping of forks on plates, and when set times run together.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

RS:We couldn’t narrow it down to just one so here are our top three.

Playing two days back to back with Diamante

Our 2018 nomination for ‘Best Rock Band’ during the Maryland Music Awards

Playing to a sold-out crowd at Angels Rock Bar during Frozen Harbor Music Festival 2020

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

RS: We are currently in the process of writing our second full-length album, more details coming soon!

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

RS: Our full-length album ‘Crowd Control’ is available on all major platforms.
