Interview with Nemesis from Pulse and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views
PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
nemesis: i am very interested in life and so i am interested in all things that are involved being human and its existence. as a band we try to push ourselves forward and try as much as we can. we don’t like to be put in some genres. we will experience the boundaries of musical genres.
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
nemesis: i am from Austria. it all started back in 1993 as my best friend and me started making music. our first band was Ecstatic Fear. it was to slow for me so i decided to form the well known Black Metal band Astaroth. in 2000 i listened to the second PAIN album Rebirth. It was a blast to me. Mixing musical genres with metal style changed my mind in making music. So PULSE was born. i made a few demo songs, but never came across to produce them in a professional way because Astaroth took to many time. In 2013 i got the chance to make my Poject real and i recorded the first PULSE album. To perform my music life, i was looking for makers to help me out. Old friends and former band mates of Astaroth and Estatic Fear became the current line up of PULSE.
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
nemesis: first of all, as mentioned before, the band PAIN. beside this fact there are a lot of bands i prefer. especially Pink Floyd and of course old Metal acts i grew up with. Other inspirations are Science Fiction movies and its soundtracks like DUNE, Event Horizon and the Alien franchise. Lyrically i write about the possibility that we are created by a super species of outer space.
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
nemesis: we are very thankful for our current record deal with not records. the next step is to promote our latest album as much as we can. an own headlinig tour across Europe is our hope.
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
meeting some big bands that we have played with like : EMPEROR, Impaled Nazarene, and many more. But the greatest moment will be to play with PAIN and SAMAEL and to record an album with Peter Tägtgren.
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
nemesis: creating and making music is not difficult these days. many simple and easy programs and the social media platforms help to reach a fast famous status.
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
nemesis: we have always help in these things. our newest promoter is the owner of NRT Records Mr. Philipp Gottfried. He supported us very well and with passion. The next big gig is in Austria at a big festival.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
nemesis: i am a fan of physical media. to earn money with streaming is extremely hard for an artist, but we are helpless and this is the future of listening to music. easy and fast purchase.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
Steh Auf from the band LINDEMANN. it is an absolute masterpiece, composing and arrangement are perfect.
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
nemesis: the only thing i wish is that the underground is getting stronger and gets more chance to get a record deal and big gigs. not always the same stuff at the same boring concerts and festivals.
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
nemesis: currently we are working on a rerelease of our first album via NRT Records. we will re-record the guitars and release it soon.
