Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
PS: Well I don’t really know. However, people have described me as being a machine due to the amount of content I’ve released in a short amount of time. So we’ll go with that
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
PS: I’m from Winnipeg, Canada and I started learning guitar at around 11 or 12, took audio engineering, got into listening to various metal and punk bands around that time, took audio engineering in my early 20s, did cover songs for practicing my skills, and then started to work on my own projects.
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
PS: Usually themes of dark fantasy, occultism, satanim, and paganism
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
PS: To continue to make music, I suppose
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
PS: Being able to connect with a large amount of fans that appreciate your music and respect you as an artist and as a person
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
PS: Fine for me as I’m one of the artists except I’m emerging from my basement instead of my bedroom.
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
PS: I don’t do live shows.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
PS: As long as you get exposure, that’s all that matters in the end
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
PS: To be honest, I don’t care about questions like that. I only focus on the stuff that I write and not so much of others. There’s never been a point in my life where I felt envious of another musician’s work.
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
PS: Tbh, I’m not that active in the music industry to decide or suggest what needs to be changed and what doesn’t. I just simply make music and that’s it
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
PS: Nothing at the moment. Just released an album in January called Adversary of God and that’s it for now
PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?
PS: You can buy my music at my bandcamp primordialserpent.bandcamp.com or sites like Hell’s Headbangers, Blasphemous Creations of Hell/Plague Demon Records.
